Beaker_Bob Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Hi everyone, I'm after some opinions! As lock-down progresses, upgradeitus has set in! I currently have "Sports Seats" in my Widebody FW (pic below), however I have always liked the looked of the Sport Turbo seats. The Yorkshireman in me though, means swapping seats purely for looks is a long shot! I don't find the sport seats massively comfortable, they are ok, but not fantastic for me. Question is, are the Sport Turbo seats a marked improvement, or similar to the Sport Seats? Ideally id like to try them, but that's not easy at the moment....! So does anyone that has either had both types in their cars, or at least tried both seats have any opinions? Id be grateful if you could share! Cheers Rob Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Yes, got a car with each fitted, the Sport Turbos are massively more comfortable for me. Would have them over the Sports seats every time. Quote
mikew123 Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Also, the slots in the rear of the sports turbo seats allows for a much better harness position. Quote
Jim cunliffe Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Same as Dave. Recently sold one with sport seats which I found very comfortable and was a bit apprehensive of the sport turbo seats but l find them more comfortable and the seat belts just fit so much better. Im not a million miles from you, Bacup if you want to try when we are let out again !! Quote

SootySport Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Sport Turbo seats are very comfy but a lot heavier than the standard Sport seat, expensive as well. Have a look round at others, there are plenty available. Quote
Onliest Smeg David Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 I found JKs more comfortable than Sport Turbo, which were far more comfy than original Sport Seats. Important that you have a good try out in your potential purchase option, as they all differ and fit different people differently. Quote
LythamBrownie Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 I had a set of Sports Seats ........ but at 6’4” I just couldn’t get comfortable with them..... GRP Tillets for me..... 💪 Quote
Burgerbob Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 I prefer the look of the sports turbo seats, especially on a more modern looking FW, and reckon the harness position will be much better. But when I sat in several cars at toybox, I can't say I found them any more comfy than the sports seats. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 You weren’t sat in them long enough. Sports seats are quite thickly padded and can seem fine on short acquaintance, it’s when you’ve been driving for a while that you you’ll have a problem, if you’re going to. (Keep in mind everyone is a different shape and size, so while they may be living torture for one person, they may be comfy as a comfy thing for another). Typically Sports Seats tend to be worse for those with a long back and broad shoulders, the wings can start to dig into your should blades something rotten after an hours driving, at which point, it can be torture. I also find sometimes, an hour or two in, they tend t start hurting my lower spine and giving me leg cramps. Yet ironically, other times you can get in, and drive for a day, and just be slightly stiff at the end. With the Sport Turbos, (and with correctly sized JKs), there wasn’t/isn’t such thing as an off-day or driving session, when sat in them, they were always supremely comfy, all day, every time. Quote
stephenh Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 Interesting that Dave mentions people with long backs. I've got a long back, and I found the sport seat simply didn't give me enough support, so although they look fine and feel comfortable on first sitting in them, like Dave I got cramps in my leg after driving much more than 30 or 40 minutes, and by an hour and a half they would be very uncomfortable, oddly always for my right leg in particular. I can't speak for the sport turbo as i've never sat in one, but I did find the JK Composites very comfortable, and once I bolted the seat back to the bulkhead via a suitable bracket they gave loads of support. I'm sure the Tillets would be equally comfortable, although I can't speak from personal use of those. Like has been said though, what is comfortable for one won't always be comfortable for another. We tend to differ in shape, a bit like recommending crash helmets! 1 Quote
Beaker_Bob Posted April 22, 2020 Author Posted April 22, 2020 Thanks for all the responses, much appreciated. Looks like there is a consensus around the improvement in the Sport Turbo seat, looks likes they will make the shopping list!! With regard to JK / Tillets. I don't have a lot of experience of them, but i did sit in them when i was looking for my car. I was pleasantly surprised how comfortable they were, but that said, i couldn't find a position that worked for me for more than a few minutes. I'm all for alternative suggestions, but on this occasion I'll give them a miss, but i do appreciate the opinions. @Jim cunliffe Thanks for the offer, depending on how long this lock-down goes on for and my (im)patience, I may take you up on that! Cheers Rob Quote
