Mighty Mart
Just a thought Steve - is it worth organising a meet up somewhere en route so we can convoy in together like stoneliegh? Mart. PS - Obviously if it goes ahead....
Peter Robinson
I have entered and hoping everything I have done to the car does not make it unreliable. Still have to sort the tracking out and I hope my rear diff hold's out 😁 as I changed the oil seal myself
Steve Smith - Joint Hampshire & IOW AO
Mighty Mart. A meet up is a good idea. We will have to see who is actually going on what days and were they are coming from. Then work out a suitable place and time. Have you any ideas? Mighty Mart
Hi Steve, like you say, maybe get an idea of everyone's starting point? I'm down in New Milton, nr Lymington, so would be travelling up to Romsey, but happy to meet up further your way, and collect anyone enroute too, maybe through the new forest? Mart. Steve Smith - Joint Hampshire & IOW AO
Here is a update from the Pete the organisers. Hi everyone. As promised here is the latest update/news for the Broughton Pageant. My thanks to all who have responded, which has been wonderful considering the present situation. Hopefully I can answer some points that have been raised first before carrying on. As mentioned we hope to go ahead with a final decision being taken two weeks before the pageant date. At the time of the lockdown (23 March) the Government issued a graph showing how they expected things to go, and basing a decision on this, we decided to take a calculated risk and go ahead. So far everything is more or less following their predictions as we are now coming out of lockdown. Among all this we have been quietly beavering away the best we can. We hope to do something on Saturday, so have arranged for a late afternoon treasure hunt just for a bit of fun of around an hour's duration. For those who wish we have arranged for camping on site, thus saving on the Sunday morning drive, with the Pocket Rockers providing entertainment, and the sports club taking care of the bar-bq. For Sunday we have refreshments and entertainment booked, including wood fired pizza freshly made on site, and music from the Romsey Ukulele band. The more unusual themes of transportation are represented with Mower Madness and their racing lawn mowers, Hart Rockets, and a coastal rescue display. Club stands are well represented with british muscle from TVR to home built Westfields, classic Fords from DAFT, to family Farinas, and even King Alfred Bedford CALZ mini-coach. Among the more genteel are the Wessex stationary engines and model displays from South Hants Model Auto Club. We always attract some unusual individual exhibits, so how about a 1927 Buick Standard, 1954 Sunbeam Talbot works rally car that competed in the Monte Carlo and RAC rallies, through to a Rochdale Olympic and everything else in between. The motorcycle section should be well represented, and for those who like their power, americana is represented from an early Chevrolet Camaro through to the latest Mustang. Next point is the Sunday road-run. This is done on a voluntary basis where a member of the public gets a chance to ride as a passenger. Due to the two meter rule this will not take place. Finally as everything is still up in the air so to speak, in the worst case scenario, we hope to be able to do something, but will keep monitoring Government updates. As things stand it will be very tight time wise. Lockdown is being relaxed and if predictions are correct we hope to be on track. If the worst happens, and we have to cancel as a public event, and not wishing to let everyone down, we were thinking of having an informal get-together for those who wish to have a chat for a couple of hours. This is again with the view to social distancing etc. Whatever happens I will be in contact two weeks before the Pageant date and let everyone know what's happening. Lastly may we thank you all for your interest and support, and fingers crossed we can at least do something. Regards, Pete.
Steve Smith - Joint Hampshire & IOW AO
Today I received the following email from the organiser of the Pageant to say sadly it been cancelled. Although this notification may be a bit early, it is with great sadness that I have to tell you all that this year's Pageant will have to be cancelled. Although we tried so hard to make this happen, it is due to circumstances beyond my control that this decision has been taken. Having come so close it was a gamble that was taken, and apologise for this, but also thank each and every one of you for taking the interest and showing your support. If you know of someone who had planned to attend, I'm going to ask a big favour, and ask that you let them know. If you can do this then you have my grateful thanks. I will let you all know as to future developments, even if that involves a new site, and look forward to meeting you all as time goes by at other meets or shows. In the meantime keep twiddling those spanner's, keep the polish flowing, and my best wishes to you all.
