Hafod Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 Any ideas, despite tightening up the uj clamp I still can’t get rid of the end float between the steering column and rack. Column and uj is new and I guess rack is reconned but looks as good as new. one of the jobs for this weekend Quote

Once you've achieved it, I suggest you replace the nut and bolt used and then you should be able to tighten to a more normal torque value. Quote
TableLeg Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Ensure you're using the right sized bolt too. It should be a bolt as opposed to a setscrew so the bolt body sits in the column groove. Originally I think there were 5/16" but 8mm is very slightly bigger. As Ian says though it's not uncommon to have to tighten more than the specified torque to get a nice firm grip. Quote
