Although it’s all relative as our area covers the whole of Scotland but I’m in Dufftown, give me a shout if I can be of any help

For a road car you might not like the gear change with straight cut gears, the 'whine' will be really annoying on your weekend drives. Otherwise it's a good spec car👍.

Gary - Thanks appreciate that!  Sure plenty of my weekend drives will take in Dufftown!

Sooty - Thanks for that, appreciate the input!  Will listen out for the gearbox on the test drive, certainly conscious that it may not be ideal for a weekend cruiser!

How important is the IVA certificate? as in having a copy of it? Owner tells me he doesn't have it although the date the cert was issued is mentioned at the bottom of the V5?

Is there any relevance to having the IVA or dopes the fact it has a V5 make it a moot point?

The DVLA retain the IAC when you apply for registration so not having one is the norm.

Exactly as Jon said, he shouldn't have the certificate, some make a copy for their personal records, but it's unnecessary in any official sense. It's only a step in obtaining the V5, once thats been achieved, it's redundant.

Straight cut gearboxes certainly have a number of benefits, however do not underestimate the long term effects of the noise!

In the days when I had one, I needed earplugs under my crash helmet to at least try and keep it down, but after six or seven years with it, (mainly road use), I grew to absolutely loathe it with a passion! Fourth gear is directly through the box on a Type 9 sq. cut gearbox, so is quiet, with no gear whine, I'd often find myself accelerating up through the gears, into fifth, and then almost subconsciously changing back down out of fifth to fourth, just because it was quieter!

So if trying to work out if you can live with it on test drives, keep out of fourth!

If you can’t live with this gearbox, then there is always someone on this forum that will swap with you for a standard helical gearbox.

It’s certainly a nice well spec’d car and not far from here, although I don’t know the car

the only thing to bear in mind is a straight cut gearbox will be noisier than a std one apart from that she appears to be a well sorted and looked after westy

@clansman do you know the car ?

Ooops sorry guys not been on for a while so just picked this up....I've a feeling I know the car as the previous owner lives in the same area as I do.

If it is the car I'm thinking of it looked pretty good although it was only once that we went for a blast.....
