Draft 2020 Motorsport UK Regulation Amendments

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

Would it make sense (if he is still a member of the Speed and Hill Climb Committee?) for Nick A to put together a layman's summary of the proposed regulation changes for 2020?

This would perhaps avoid too many different interpretations and give us some pointers how to respond?

Thanks

Of course it would be great to read Nicks views on all of this. However, a good start of debate, would be to read it us in our own, and be able to raise the questions and concerns...

It will be a lot easier to do this. I won't be able to give you a view, but can hopefully answer any questions on what they mean or any ambiguities that may arise.

These are proposed regulation changes so once you are clear about what they mean then to have you view heard on them please reply to SpeedConsultation@motorsportuk.org  If you do like them, also say so.

Thanks for agreeing to provide clarification which I feel is essential to avoid many different interpretations of what is proposed!

Should we submit individual responses or would a considered consolidated response from the Westfield Community carry more weight in the final analysis?

People can just put questions up here as they want answers to anything which they need clarity on. I'll try and help if I can.

Can you advise what is needed to comply with proposal 10.7.1

What constitutes a fuel Pump Isolation System?

Is the Ignition Switch or Master Cut Off Switch sufficient with the on/off positions marked additionally?

Look forward to your clarification

An ignition switch or master switch that kills power to the fuel pump is all that is needed

That would be my interpretation as well.

That has been confirmed by a Scottish Scrutineer

I shall be responding to MUK but have the following queries relating to tyres:

Query 1 - Am I correct in thinking that for Standard and Road categories tyres must not only be “E-marked” but also carry an EU Energy +Wet Grip+ Noise Label.

Query 2 – As not all “E-marked” tyres carry an EU Energy Label (and are thus presumably not permitted in Standard and Road categories) how is it planned for scrutineers, etc to check if a tyre is compliant for Standard and Road Classes?

To my knowledge, although it was proposed, there is no EU or other database listing those tyres carrying an EU Energy Label tyres and reference to List 1A and 1B has been removed in the Proposed Regulations.

Hi Keith,

It would help if you could quote the specific part of the New Regs that you are refering to so that it makes it easier to reference. But assuming you are refering to :

Wheels and tyres 11.9.1.5. Standard wheels and EU compliant labelled 117 (EU compliant road tyres)

The part labelled 117 then this was added by Technical Department to reference a specific type of EU Tyre following advice from the tyre manufacturers. So if a list is required it could of course be made and held by Motorsport UK.

If it's some other section then please point out which one.

Hi Nick

Thanks for the prompt response.

It was indeed 11.5 Standard wheels and EU compliant labelled 117(EU compliant road tyres) and the equivalent proposed 12.6 Regulation for Road cars. As you state I can see no alternative to an MUK List or drivers providing evidence (as is required for MOT, insurance, etc).

I currently run EU Labelled Nankangs in Roadgoing but it would  appear that many 1C tyres and remoulds that are E-marked but do not carry an EU Energy Label will have to run in Modified with slick shod entrants as is currently the case in ModProd. ....or have I missed something 🤔

Don't think you have missed anything, that was exactly the point of adding 117 was my understanding, to ensure it was a "True road tyre" as supplied & fitted by a car manufacturer.
