yep.....tbh i also don't like the idea of running 1ltr polo rads on a 200+bhp engine which is why i have a very large rad and don't worry about its weight .

but again that goes against what most people on here belive too.

The Polo rad *isn't* up to the job of cooling a 200+bhp engine if hammered on track in warm conditions.  But it, or the Golf rad, *is* OK for a lot of applications.

The Golf rad has proven to be OK in my car - enough of a safety margin for me not to worry unduly - and it's seen some pretty extreme ambient temps out here.  But, per the other thread somewhere else, Mr Boyce is having to use a V8 spec rad with his 2.0 VX because the Golf one wasn't up to the job.

Looks like my polo rad is up for sale in the new year then :(  :(

Best thing I can say at the moment is "wait and see".  I used to have a Polo rad when I had the Xflow engine in the car and it was fine, even on trackdays.

But with the knowledge that an engine producing 185bhp from 1600cc was likely to run a little hotter, and knowing that a stint in Arizona was on the cards, I opted for the Golf rad.

As I've mentioned, I've done some pretty hot trackdays out here with ambient temperatures in the 90s and even into the 100s (over 35 Celcius) and the coolant and oil temperatures, while high, weren't what I would consider excessive.  I think the water temp peaked at 102C and the oil at 115C, and that was at the end of 15-20 minutes on track.

I think with your installation being so new I'd be inclined to try things before changing them.  I know JohnCh (over here in Seattle) is using a Golf rad and I think his engine will be a similar spec to yours.

I wish!  I am going with the stock cams for starters, so my power should only be in the 180-190hp range.  Of course that's a big bump over my outgoing 120hp crossflow and with all the other changes I'm doing this winter, it will have over 100 lb. less weight to pull around  :D
