Glenelg to Skye, turntable ferry boat.

The MV Glenachullish was originally built in 1969 for the Ballachulish crossing prior to the bridge being opened in 1975 The boat is the last operating manual turntable ferry in the world.

The roads to the ferry are absolutely fantastic.

Fare is £15.00.

I crossed, on a car ferry, from south to north Ballachulish in 1971. I suppose it must have been on that vessel but I have to admit that the intervening years have caused a modicum of atrophy of the memory! We also crossed on the Kylesku ferry in the same year - that was free of charge I seem to recall. Both are now gone and replaced by bridges. The road around the sea-loch at Tongue is now replaced by a bridge too, and many of the single track roads that made touring Ross and Cromarty feel like a an adventure have been widened and surfaced. In 1973 we went to Gairloch in my 1970 MG Midget and they were widening the road along Loch Maree at the time. Slattadale is one one of favourite places in Britain; or anywhere in fact. We climbed Slioch on Loch Maree in 1988 I think it was.

Did this crossing a couple of years ago, it's brilliant.  As said, the road up to the ferry is fun as well!

Yes,and the dog took a dislike to my shoes.

It just wouldn’t leave my feet alone for the full trip over.

When we went over a couple of years ago, they gave us discount for quantity (and because our cars were so small) - there were around 12 Westys.

Yes, I remember a comment about it.

It was £15.00 to cross for us.
