Morris Posted yesterday at 06:39 Posted yesterday at 06:39 I collected the XI from 'Classic Collective Bicester' yesterday, and Simeon showed me around some lovely cars in their workshop. It was an enjoyable 80 mile meandering drive back home. 4 Quote

There's nothing quite like going on a 110 mile round trip to test it all out. I'm glad it's back on the road in time for the good weather. Quote
powell Posted yesterday at 06:52 Posted yesterday at 06:52 Here’s my SE, competing in the British autotest championship at Shelsley Walsh on Saturday. 200 mile drive down, a day skidding around and a 200mile faultless drive home 4 Quote

I always seemed to time major work just before Stoneleigh show and the drive to the show was always the shakedown run. 1 Quote

I had intended to have the cylinder head back the week before, but one of the valve guides fell out whilst setting up the seats for recutting! Quote

Morris Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago 1 hour ago, BobMet said: What did they do to get it running sweetly again @Morris? There were a couple of factors, one being the fuel had 'gone off'. Even though I use 5% ethanol fuel, its life is no more than two months, so it had degraded over the winter months. Also the plugs I was using weren't ideally matched to the Megajolt ignition (it needs a resistive type). The engine sounds more punchy (and louder) at higher revs and it starts well, but I suspect there is still a vacuum leak that has destabilised and raised the idle speed, resulting in some dieseling of the engine once I switch off the ignition. General driving is great, but I still need to address the vac leak. I suspect its air finding its way along the threads of the vacuum ports I screwed into the inlet manifold. The garage also fixed a rear axle oil leak that was causing me grief. There was a little damage to the sealing surface with the lip seal that they've repaired. They also had a good look over the car, tightened a few worm clips, replaced a section of fuel house and tightened the fan belt. 2 Quote
Euan Hoosearmy Posted 53 minutes ago Posted 53 minutes ago @Morris have you seen this thread about using a diode to stop engine run-on after switching off ignition? Quote

No, I'll take a look, thank you but that won't be relevant for my setup. In my case, Megajolt immediately cuts the ignition once the key is turned, so the dieseling is caused by a small quantity of fuel flowing from the Weber carb due to the higher idle, the hot combustion chambers and air from the leak. BobMet Posted 24 minutes ago Posted 24 minutes ago ...and I see @Morris that fame has arrived with you and your car featured in this month's Complete Car Builder. And there is also the WSCC 40th anniversary article. A veritable feast for me to get stuck into! Quote
