This seems to be a bit of a minefield!  I can understand talking about a few PSI each way and the effect of temperature, but a range of 17 to 30 PSI for a light car like the Westfield doesn't make sense to me.  I suppose the proof would be to do a few laps at the same track in the same conditions at the two extremes - 17 PSI and then 30 PSI and compare the times and get the driver feedback?

It would need to be a consistent, experienced driver - any takers?

Tony

Bear in mind some are talking cold pressures where I am talking hot pressures and have tried to be explicit about this.

Cold pressures seem to be in the ballpark as recommended by @John and @terry everall so probably a good place to start. Needs a tyre temp probe and a good test day to mess around to find what's right for you.

The range from Alan at Toyo is huge in terms of hot pressures, so as said before, best to experiment for yourself and see what works for you, your set up and driving style.

And most of our cars are between 400kgs and 600 kgs so very very light

and I am talking sprinting (1 to 2 laps max) not track days or circuit racing

Does a Toyo R888 (or any circuit tyre) not need to be at it's optimum operating temperature, for maximum grip, what ever use it's being put to? Hot pressures should be the same should they not? Cold pressures could be different.

FWIW, I use 18psi hot, which will cool down to 14 to 16psi cold.

Correct but you never get to optimum temperature in just 1 or 2 laps on road tyres

I'm tempted to say do more laps then, but I better not..
