suggestions on half shaft bearings have seen them for a little as a tenner but up to nearly £60 each for a SKF unit from bearing kits.co.uk

is it really worth the extra any help or suggestions for alternatives please

I can’t claim any personal experience, but I do recall one member, though can’t for the life of me remember who, reporting that the cheaper/Chinese pattern bearings, tended to have oil weeps - the bearing also contains the oil seal for the half axles.

A chap called  @jeff oakleyon here is very knowledgeable about the quality of after market car parts as its related to his line of work. A lot of parts are the same thing in different brand boxes at different prices and he will have a good idea which ones are the better quality items. I asked a question about front wheel bearings a while ago which he helped me on.

Cheers john i have now found the expensive ones for £12 cheaper from the same seller on a different site but still £45. i will see if @jeff oakley has any information before buying them.

on the plus side it was that knackered that i didn't need a slide hammer it just pulled straight out when i undid the 4 bolts. also as you mentioned there was a small weld on the retaining collar so will do the same again this time. cheers

Sounds like it was just the wrong bearing as they don't shrink

Just small 4 equally spaced tack welds are all that are required so that they can be dremmelled off in the future

Definitely worth speaking to Jeff, as he can probably advise where best to buy, not just what to buy! I seem to remember in a similar previous post him saying that a few of the well known big-name bearing manufacturers aren’t what they used to be, and are essentially just slightly higher grade Chinese made product, and that there are also plenty of fakes around.

From previous experience within the Live Axle Crew it is false economy to go with anything elase other than the SKF bearing.

Please discuss with Mark @ Bearing Kits for further info/confirmation!

Hope this helps
