avi8 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Hi Im looking for a well built & sorted high spec road car, ideally Ecoboost 1.6 or 2.0 , Duratec or I might consider Zetec running throttle bodies. I would like the car to have four pot brakes and a good suspension setup & LSD As for bodywork I would like it to be FW style but would consider SEIW, Aeroscreen would be nice but not essential. The vehicle needs to be well looked after, being a perfectionist i know the right car might take some finding (any advice would be appreciated). If you have a car like this or know of one please let me know. Regards.
Kingster Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Welcome aboard. Any reason to specify the Omex ECU? Just that DTA, MBE, Emerald etc can do the job just as well (at least). Orherwise what do you want a car for? road and track days, touring or a mix? Just that high spec can vary depending on meaning, such as high spec gearbox vs high spec upholstery
avi8 Posted January 7, 2018 Author Posted January 7, 2018 Hi No real reason for specifying omex other than it seems to be one of the most popular brands out there and I would like it to be capable of sending data to a digital dash if I was to upgrade to one.. The car would mainly be used for road and the odd track day, but I would rather have a high spec gearbox rather than upholstery in fact I would prefer jk/tillet seats.
Kingster Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 As long as the ECU supports CAN data, then the upgrade to a digital dash is fine. mine runs a DTA s60 and my Aim dash displays pretty much everything the ECU sends via the two CAN wires. Also just helped another member upgrade his car using a DTA s40 to use the same dash. So just make sure the ECU supports CAN and importantly it’s something that can be mapped by your preferred specialist. So sounds like you want my car with an LSD and FW body Pity - it’s not for sale, but will keep an eye out for something similar
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Welcome! Most of the popular aftermarket ecu’s in their reasonably recent, (last five years or so) versions will support Can bus communications, and are supported by people like Aim and Race Technology. But even the older generation ecu’s from the likes of MBE, DTA, Omex, Emerald etc, generally have serial outputs, even if they predate CAN Bus, Though this may require a serial adaptor for the Dash, it’s “do-able”. The main thing, as Chris said, is, if you have plans for engine upgrades, to get an ecu that your preferred rolling road tuner is comfortable using. (It will be faster and easier for them to achieve the desired result, if not learning the quirks of a new system, and hence cheaper). The top end four pot front calipers, like the AP Racing set up are very good, no question. The mid ground though, if truth be told have little and sometimes less(!) performance advantage as far as stopping power goes than the old standard Ford M16 twin pots. From a retro fit point of view, their main advantage is considerable weight saving over M16’s, and from a factory built car point of view, they’re brand new, so no messing around with availability issues of rebuilt original Ford calipers, or aftermarket pattern copies. Most of the braking performance requirements for most Westfields could actually be addressed perfectly, just by a bit of experimentation with the different aftermarket high performance/Race brake pads, and possibly in a few cases, adding an adjustable bias valve, just to fine tune the front to rear balance, for those doing a lot of track miles. I’d 100% agree with you on gearbox importance; they really can transform a Westfield in both day to day driving and in the extremes of track use. Fortunately, for cars built around the Ford Type 9 gearbox, there is a huge range of aftermarket alternatives out there, from very reasonably priced alternative gear ratio sets, right the way through to top flight sequentials, that cost more than many spend to buy the Westfield in the first place! Tillets and the other shell type seats, like JK Composites are incredibly comfortable, if you get the right seat for your body shape, so another good call.
Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Welcome. It may be worth adding a rough location to your avatar as some people may be near you and are likely to offer for you to look / ride in their car to help you decide.
avi8 Posted January 7, 2018 Author Posted January 7, 2018 Thank you all for the advice given, I know I'm asking a lot but I'm prepared to wait for the right car. I have been looking at the AIM dash, but need to find a car first.

As I suggested, it's only fair for me to offer you're welcome to look at my S2000 FW(It's definitely not for sale, though sorry!) with aeroscreen given I'm in Staffordshire too and about 18 miles/30 mins away. Message me for contact details. A ride out could be arranged too. Do I suspect your username is linked to the location you've pinned on the membersmap? One of my neighbours was the Bean Counter at ALE until a year or so and a work colleague lives on the housing estate near by.
andy665 Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 I'm also happy to meet up with you - have a look at mine - quite different spec to what you are looking for but built to an extremely high standard (not myself)

If you are somewere about stafford, Pop in to crewe if you want to check few of the things you want for your car.. actually mostly with the setup you are looking for... ITB, JK seats, Aeroscreen, loads of carbon... My car isn't perfect... is treated and maintained as a race car and far from the "perceccionist" OCD standart... but definitely worth a look to understand if you really want a tidy version of this stuff, or you may thing on something much more standart... 1
avi8 Posted January 8, 2018 Author Posted January 8, 2018 Thanks for all the offers to view various cars, I will have to arrange some meetings.
