BugMan Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 OK team, probably some bl**** obvious answer, but how the hell are you supposed to tighten this nylock nut up? Had some hassle with front hubs in general, but ill post that up on my build later. It just spins around once it hits the nylon. Quote
John (Kernow) Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 You will need to apply some pressure from underneath to get the rod end to sit tightly in the taper of the steering arm. A length of wood on a trolley jack would work and only enough pressure to stop it spinning. John 1 Quote
Thrustyjust Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 You take the nut off. Chuck some washers on, so it pulls up before the nyloc nips, put another washer on to pull it into the taper and lock. Undo and remove all washers and tighten the nut on Quote
Murraymint Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 You might just get away with a slight tap with a hammer underneath of the rod end.... Quote
Thrustyjust Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Oh and dont forget to paint them and also the IVA covers for the rods now, if you havent got them on. Quote
Alan Cutler (Adge) - Dorset AO Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 @BugMan Just seen this. My advice would be not to worry about tightening the track rod ends just yet! I'll put money on you having to move them on the extenders before you're finished. Obviously you can adjust them insitu, but to my mind it's a lot easier to achieve a coarse initial set up, (when sat on the deck fully built) by hand. If you tighten them now you might well need a splitter to loosen them again. Just suggesting Quote
BugMan Posted December 31, 2017 Author Posted December 31, 2017 Thanks to all for the help, it was a case of "Brain Freeze" with this, I just stood there thinking how the hell do I get out of this. ;-( I'm somewhat confused on the steering rack, as I decided to mount it and balance the LH/RH movement with the various steering UJ's etc, so once centered put the extenders on, with the ball joint on the end's 1/2 threaded on, and the disk's look roughly parallel. So I'm not sure if the rack actually need to be shortened or not. WF are away until the 2nd of Jan, so no confirmation yet. I'm also somewhat stuck on the battery holder, I just can't see how this is going to fit without fouling the steering rack Quote

Battery holder should fit, with the tallest side toward the rear of the car. Not good photo, but gives an idea hopefully. Bit fiddly, but the strap does fit. Quote
