BMW i8 Roadster love at first sight

Just checked autotrader, an i8 coupe bought for £105k in 2015 would be £58k just over 2 years later. Now that’s expensive.

They make a lot of sense as a company car though - particularly when purchased secondhand when the bulk of the depreciation has happened

I nearly purchased a new 530e but ended spending similar money on a used i8

I would agree they are not really a super car in performance terms but they are impressively quick across country and mighty out of corners and overtaking

the interior is impressive, particularly at night and I don’t find the doors a big issue but I am a lanky streak of pi??

road presence is big if you like that sort of thing and I get high 38mpg even when spending a lot of time in sport mode

would I buy one as a toy for that sort of money? No I wouldn’t

But in the right circumstances they give and opportunity for someone to own an incredible car and not be slaughtered on bik tax

Great to hear you've bought one Cleggy, and interesting first comments on using it. Certainly a very different Company car. I was lucky and just managed to squeeze an M5 as Co car years ago before the Gov screwed them to ground, so well done on thinking out of the box to get around it. Wonder if you could have got a Rimac ;)

Look forward to hearing what you think longer term on using it.

Wow, Clark, I thought you were kidding, you really have one? Happy birthday by the way. I am spending too much time with these naughty Westfielders that are always pulling my leg, I end up not believing anything.

Brill, love the picture, and you are a man that takes a good photo, so if any time in the future you feel like posting any pics, don't hold back

Cleggy but is the bik not based on the list price rather than the second hand value?

its on the list price - which is a shame :d

Really good choice as a company car Cleggy, and BIK on list is just another example of an unjust tax. By what logic can the Gov. say that the value is worth £104k when the market says its worth £58k because of age.

In fact just look what BIK has done to the company car market. My first company car was a Ford Cortina and my last a Prius, not quite what you could call a progressive career path. But at least I had silly ones in between. No, I didn’t like the Prius one bit but it was so damn reliable, low BIK, and friends felt sorry for me because they thought I had been demoted. At least retirement was an easy decision.

Had it for quite a few months now and squeezed a trip to the Nordschliefe in it, so am fairly familiar with it, including that long trek which it despatched in comfort on motorways including a couple of blasts up to the 155 limit on the autobahn - the twisty bits around the surrounding areas of Spa (which we did on the way back) for instance were epic. The  "not as wide as supercar tyres" are not noticed unless you are driving way faster than you should on the road! As you know large wide tyres on a daily are probably not that desirable to be honest with risk of aquaplaning and also replacement costs (although unsure as to the cost of the i8 tyres)

Like I say a great all rounder - the only down sides as a daily are perhaps the size of it, so its not really a back laner - I dont find the headlights illuminate around tight corners at all well but are superb in other rspects - and the lack of cabin storage for bits n pieces is a bit of a pain (glove box very small, the two trays in the centre console are also small and the boot is adequate but not generous - you do have the back seats however which make it much more practical than most supercars (my kids fit in fine for short journies and we us the Outlander PHEV if its all five of us or for longer journies)

If you ever consider one let me know and we can discuss

Dont blame her. Perhaps you should let her loose with the pink tyre letter paint and then do a runner :d
