I just dont get it

It took me years of tweeking and improving my car ( I very much enjoyed doing this though)  to make it competitive

But now people seem to want and expect to win as soon as they start

Sorry Stephen and Smokey, nice idea , but who would want to set off at 5-00 AM , in the dark , and maybe pouring rain to do an event?

If it rains on the way to the circuit then I'll put up my hood, once there i pitch my tent so I can get up at 7am.

i'm not saying that the rules should be wriiten that you must drive to the circuit, simply that bonus points could be awarded to those that choose to.

I think you're missunderstanding us Stu.

I'm offering suggestions to help grow the number of entrants to the speed series by encouraging members of "standard" road cars to take part.

Nobody expects to win but if the regulations of a particular championship are written in such a way that your "standard" car would be seriously uncompetitive against others in your class then you're going to look elsewhere for your racing fix. This is one of the reasons I left the speed series when I did and joined Borough 19 MC.

Nothing wrong withB19 but it does not have classes that would suit most of our Westfield speed series cars

But it does have classes that would suit road going kit cars ;)

Evening all, I personally would like to thank the ssot for all there effort as usual, with  out them there wouldn't be a speed series . There always seems to be a lot of unrest at this time of year, perhaps the way forward would be to do away with classes  abcdef and just have 2 road going classes that follow the msa rules regarding road going specialist production cars . The class split would be 1700cc and over  as per harewood and may other venues, this would have the added benefit that 1b tyres are cheaper than 1c tyres.

Yes Smokey . I agree with your aim

In my eyes the MSA have pretty much killed off the casual competitor in standard road cars

Evening John

That would simplify things

But

It would mean that only the fastest, most expensive cars would have any chance

Not very fair to most I think

But please remember that we cater for all types and spec of WESTFIELDS with different tyres, engines, gearboxes, suspension mods etc as well as our invitation classes J1, J2 and J3

HI Stuart, by putting the 6 classes into 2 there would be more cars in each class , the competion would be harder. The man who's been running at his local venue on 1b,s wouldn't have to consider if he's got the right tyres synchro, dog or seqeuntial 4,5,6 speed box, which is a mine field in our series.the scoring would be simpler for tigger and the ssot  would have less work. John all the cars have been developed over the years and that is part of the fun to develop and then test on timed runs. Terry I agree with you that all the car specs engines etc would still be covered nicely by the msa regs without the need to have lots of classes

I know! But that's not what some people think. Some want instant success without developing either their car or themselves and spending the time and by doing so want things made easier so they can get it

Yep. That is exactly what we want... easier targets to be achiveable by slow cars and non capable drivers.

Ehhhhrr.... not really.

this isn't about wanting instant sucess without putting the effort in. It's about creating a class structure that would make the speed series more appealing to those who want to have a go at sprinting but currently don't because the current classes don't suit the 95% of Westfield's in the club that have been built as true road cars.
