I'm very close to ordering a Westfield to build myself, just need to satisfy myself which one to go for. Classic or FW.
Does anyone locally (close to WV5 or DY6) have a FW with a hood, I can't find any good photos of a FW with the hood up, not sure how it looks. How many owners use the hood? Would like to see one up close, they hadn't got a car with a hood at the factory when I visited.  Also, I know you don't choose one of these cars for boot space, but which one has the more usable space for days out. I'd love to have look at the two alternatives. Could anyone help?
Cheers Ken.

Personal choice really not many use the fw hood I don't know any in our area, as I believe most don't like the looks.

A lot  just use the half hood @Rhett - Joint Black Country AO Has a fw with a half hood & is only round the corner from DY6, I'm not to far away just outside bridgnorth & working in Kingswinford at the moment, but mine has fw rear but no weather gear.

oh & :ww:

I don't live far from you but have a zk with full cage totally opposite to what your looking for lol. But I'd say the boot box is bigger on the zk than the fw

I use the hood on my FW. I don't like the look of it but it does a reasonable job. I drove to the alps in June and we had a lot of rain. The hood kept most of the rain out - we had more water coming under the windscreen than through the roof!

Here are a couple of photos, one of which demonstrates how hard it is to get out when the roof is on!

One thing to remember is that you can only use the standard roll bar with this hood.

I'm down in Hampshire so too far away for you to have a look.

:ww:from sunny Somerset. I've just built a FW bodied car, the appearance swayed it for me, rather than storage. In case your not aware, you are not limited to Westfields own hoods. You can get half hoods and other weather gear from http://www.softbitsshop.co.uk/westfield-50-c.asp

Enjoy your build, whatever you choose. Highly recommend posting a build thread on here when you start, enables you to tap into a wealth of experience. Take loads of photos of cars in build anytime you go to the factory, they make a good reference.

Echo AdgeC here, and the common thread from above.

For me the starting point was to decide what I wanted to use the car for, than work backward from was was possible from both a build and cost perspective.  I'm very lucky in that I have the full support of my wife and son, and after spending time with my local WF group (Highly recommended) this helped me "tune" what my choice was going to end up at.

for me it was the ability to buy a complete kit from WF, as I had experience of watching my father in-law struggle with a Locost, which took him 7 years of trying different bits from brakers, and he's still "tinkering" with his Pinto based car.  I personally went for the Sport 250, partly because its a full kit option, and partly from the excellent builds on here so I feel there was nothing I could not emulate.

A hidden benefit for me was it got my A*** of the PC playing games all the time, has improved my health as I'm more active, improved my social life with my local group, and I feel part of a community here, with all the excellent support - In short a life changer

Thanks to all of you who responded to my question.  No doubt I'll be posting more questions when I a car to build.

Thanks again.

Ken.
