SXRORY Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 So car fun today. I took a trip down to JPR tuning in Yate. I have had the car 10 months, a couple of track days have been done and I've driven a fair few road miles. The car has a 2.0 zetec throttle bodies and emerald ecu and sold to me with “165” bhp ( but no dyno graph). It felt pretty fast but I started to think it was not so good low down and felt like it was dragging a bit. I had rung John at JPR on a google search when I was first on the hunt for a car and tried one with carbs. He was really helpful, I did not buy that car but I knew if I wanted any work doing I’d call him. He started looking at the map on the car (a bit miffed by it) , made some changes and we did quite a few runs more tweaks and a couple of hours later it was making 178bhp and 151 torques. Making power all the way through the rev range and he said safely too. Not bad for a 96 mondy lump. He was impressed with it, so was I it was like a different car on the way home..... so punchy and keeps on going… well happy Any one need any work done I can’t recommend JPR enough John knows his onions. ………next job improve brakes lol on the rollers pic and dyno graph 4 Quote
Thrustyjust Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Sometimes these 'old school' places give you as good as these high tech shops, but without the overhead costs and added experience behind it. That is good power for a Mondy. Numbers dont mean a lot, its the seat of the pants feel and that the AFR is correct to make sure it stay well fuelled. Quote

Absouloutly old school just talking to him hes been doing this stuff for years, race cars, classics, engines for the WRC in the 80's etc etc The "experience" is you being part of the process, Him being a guy of larger sature made it that I was in the car being told what to do via headphones. I also kept him well stocked with coffee. Dyno and bhp number's are for willy waving at the pub, I know that. It was rebuilt by a Jag land rover engineer engineer in 2003.......He might of done something who knows . Quote

Totally stock internals, GSXR600 ITBs and a standard Westfield exhaust. Ours runs out of puff sooner than yours so it does indeed look like yours has had some head work done. Quote
Kingster Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 I reckon the exhaust will have a lot to do with it. @SXRORY has what looks like a non Westfield one which can only be a good thing as the factory one is not a great design! mine tails off as the exhaust struggles to flow properly after 5500rpm (imo) Mine is bog standard internally. Nice chart Chris, your car is making good power nice and early like 5k there where as I'd have to give it loads of rpm to get near that.... like 6.5k + rpm. why that would be? lots of variables I know, just intrested Quote
Kingster Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 Well one thing to remember is that every dyno is different and only really usefully for a before and after comparison and of course to allow the operator to get the fuelling right. The numbers do not equate across dynos. But yes, very happy with the good spread of power and torque mine has and although it does not pull to the red line like yours, it certainly pulls! I did run it in "hard and fast" from brand new. So it was given the berries after 15 mins to bed the rings in and might have helped with decent compression (debatable tactic and result but it's my engine and I can do as I wish with it!). looking to replace the exhaust at some point so will see if I'm right later. Mine has fairly long trumpets on it so might help with torque and earlier power? Not sure tbh. Quote

Not sure tbh. Deffo the case on motorbike engines,hence all the fancy adjustable trumpets fitted on newer bikes which lower down at higher revs to increase power Quote
