hi all looking for help please

the westfield i bought came with a detachable steering wheel which i don't like the feel of, as they always feel quite slack with play in ,so i want to change it back to to a bolt on steering wheel

which boss kit do i have to buy to be able to put a omp sparco steering wheel on

A slack feeling quick release wheel is a symptom of either a poor quality quick release, or wear, or of course a bit of both. Decent quality "ball" type QR hubs have zero slack/play.

We need to know how your existing QR hub is fitted, as many of them are welded to the column. If it is, then your easiest solution would be to get an new upper/inner steering column with the splined top still in place.

If you are lucky and it's not a weld on QR hub, then it may just be a case of unbolting it, as they normally just bolt to an existing boss.

For reference, the standards Westfield splined column on the current cars (and has been for many years), is the BL 48 spline pattern found on many Land Rovers, Minis, Alegros etc.

The steering wheel boss comes straight off the spline I will try and get some pics posted

it looks similar to mine, which is a Racetech unit. Normally pretty robust...!

The link Andy sent you would be fine although clearly you can get slimmer ones.

Some play isn't uncommon on those splined type Quick releases. Unfortunately though that splined end is part of the quick release hub - they are supplied with them. You cut the end of the original steering column off, and weld that special splined section on in its place.

The spline section normally has a "key" spline to align the QR hub, it also doesn't normally have a threaded end etc.

Long and short of it is that it's not a modification that's readily reversed.

The easiest way is to buy a new complete in er steering column, I'm afraid.

Otherwise, I suppose you could try adapting the one you've already got to a zero play type QR boss. (Would mean getting the column modified a second time though).

This was a factory built car with only 5000 miles on clock and steering wheel is not set straight either can it be adjusted to at least be straight

The race tech steering wheel only has 3 bolts through but it's too small for me
