Trying to find specific road from Hereford to Aberystwyth.

I am looking to find a specific road in wales.

The road led me from Hereford to Aberystwyth.

I remember going through welsh villages in valleys and I remember going up a massive steep hill and on the right hand side there was an old mine complete with pit head gear.

As I continued towards Aberwystwyth, It reminded me of Switzerland. Rivers on the left and long forests of fir trees and twisty roads.

It is not Elan Valley.

is anyone able to point me in the right direction.

I am thinking of taking Buttercup to work next week and I would love to find this road again.

I was hoping to take a day off work and this was going to be my route.

That will be great.

I will be travelling back home on the Friday and I am hoping to take either the Tuesday or Wednesday off work and apart from that, I will have evenings free after work.

Well, I dont recognise that specific road unfortunately Geoff, but I'd recommend you try and amend your route slightly to take in;

A4120 (Aberystwyth to Rhyaader)

B4560 (Beaufort to Llangynidr)

B4520 (Builth Wells to Brecon)

and specifically dont miss A4069 Black Mountain Road (of Top Gear Fame)  ( Brynamman to Llandovery)

there are many many more gems to drive, you wont be disappointed.

Thanks Craig,

I just wish I could remember more.

I will have a look at the roads you suggest.

I am not bothered about fast roads as more than happy tootling along at 30mph and looking at views.

Thanks everyone else also for the replies.

You're welcome.

They're not specifically fast, they're nice and scenic. In fact the Black Mountain road has been slapped with 40mph signs since TG featured it and it attracted the bikers.

Doesn't really matter which direction you drive them to fit your plans.

On that route as I can see you've planed you might as well take in the Elan Valley, it won't add much and we all know it's stunning.

We just did the Black mountain both ways, lots of fun

Received a telephone call today from my MD, and I may be starting a project on Monday in Wolverhampton.

It won't be confirmed until tomorrow or Thursday so my plans  to bring Buttercup to Hereford next week are now on hold.

Try Cwmystwyth. Old lead mines, roads running down next to the river, accessed from the Elan valley roads or from Pontarfynach (Devil's Bridge) from Aberystwyth.

Yep, the steep hill you mentioned is the Cwmystwyth mountain road out of Rhayader, leads across to the lead mines as mentioned and follows the river Ystwyth through Pontrhydygroes towards the coast south of Aber, great roads, but you need to include the Elan valley loop which is spectacular, did it myself today, fantastic!

Nick.

Thanks Nick.

Its fab that I now know where to go Unfortunately things changed at work and as it stands, I won't be taking Buttercup to work or having a day off as I hoped to do the run into Wales.
