My Westfield needs a new exhaust/silencer.

I contacted the Parts Dept at Westfield Sports Cars Ltd via the contacts page on their website (as suggested by them), to confirm suitability, check availability and delivery times of a replacement.  Over a week has gone by and I have still not had a reply.

By contrast I contacted Wunoff who responded within hours and provided full details of their "Re-pack" system including photographs, diagrams and comprehensive fitting instructions.  Price delivery and lead in times were also supplied.

This is not the first time that my potential purchasing requests have been ignored by WSL and I have to say I am a little disappointed at their apparent reluctance to engage with their customer base.  I would have thought that the opportunity of a sale valued between £300 and £600 would have been of interest to them and worthy of a quick response but apparently this is not the case.  The sad part about all of this is that I really want WSL to prosper and grow.  That the brand develops a strong and powerful image  is important for all of us and if the firm is to survive and hopefully grow market share in these difficult economic times, I feel  morally obliged to support them in whatever way I can.  But loyalty is a two way process and at the moment it appears to me to be rather one sided.

Now of course there may well be a very good reason why WSL did not or were unable to respond to my query but on the basis of my experience dealing with the two firms that I contacted, I know which one deserves the business.

Having got all that off my chest has anyone used the Wunoff Repack silencer and able to share their experiences with me, good or bad?  My car is fitted with a 2.1L Pinto engine and used exclusively on the road.

Thanks in anticipation of receiving  your help.

@Ianboom has a wunoff silencer and im pretty sure @TableLeg has two becasue of his massive engine. heard nothing but good things about wunoff. i heard though the grapevine that westfeild were having some troubles with there exhaust suppliers and are currently changing suppliers but that doesnt account for the bad customer service

I had a wunoff silencer and it was great. Keep an eye on the screws holding the end cap on, I lost a few but have not heard that to be a common thing.

I suspect there is an element of "if we don't make, we have to order it in, we don't make much profit on it"

Westfield are very good at making chassis and bodywork and the associated bits and bobs (though even then I suspect there's a large proportion of the base car that's farmed out to specialist manufacturers) - for many of the "bolt on" components you're better off just going to actual supplier / manufacturer of those components rather than Westfield themselves because as we all know, they struggle at times with even the most basic customer service.

This isn't a slag off of Westfield - I think they are doing a fantastic job to survive in what is a very niche market and one burdened with red tape. Personally i think they should just put their hands up and tell people the part numbers, description and manufacturer of all the "bits" so that you can buy them direct from the manufacturer and save Westfield the hassle and condemnation !!

Hi,

Sorry to hear that you have not had a response, however the contacts part of our webpage seems to be quite temperamental and doesn't always show that customers have contacted us.

it is always best to give us a direct contact via phone or our email which i will provide below to get a guaranteed response

If i can help any more in anyway then just drop us a message and i will help you as much as i can

Thanks

As mentioned I do indeed have 2. They are not only very well made (superb welding!) but Mark at Wunoff was even able to modify my silencers to my spec.

I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them.

Without being overly harsh on Westfield as they are reliant on suppliers. But, the exhaust I had from them recently is not worth the price they charge for them. The carbon part is nice but the welding leaves a little to be desired for a near 1k exhaust. I could have had a complete system made locally for just over half the price with far superior weld quality.

Westfield parts have always been good to me by phone and email and I more often than not !=I get parts next day.

Funny how we have different experiences of suppliers. I phoned Wunoff for a silencer mentioned it was for a Westfield and after a conversation that I could half hear through a hand covered receiver at their end they said I had to go to Westfield as they couldn't supply me direct with Westfield parts.

Or get someone in to answer the phone, emails, and box up parts orders. I work in an small OEM engineering company with a lot in common with Westfield and we get spares out next day with happy customers all the time. If we don't have it on the shelves, we give a robust leadtime, with trust built up in our suppliers.

Sort it out then.

Should be rock solid and unavoidably robust. All it had to do is generate and email!

Sorry if that sounds hard, but it really shouldn't be something that keeps coming up here when it's so easy to get right. I want you to have a cracking reputation for doing what you do and doing well.

You don't stock obtuse parts on your website, and if there are parts that dont make you enough money to be worth it, ot that you can't get good  a suppliers for, take them off or increase the profit margin.

+1 for Wunoff.

My Wunoff silencer developed a crack after 10 years of use. I spoke with them on the phone and posted it back to them. They did a first rate repair and re-pack all for an excellent price and with a quick turn around. If I was in the market for another I would happily buy from them again.

I've just purchased from Wunoff. I took my old exhaust to them as it had an odd shaped piece that linked to the manifold. They fabricated a new piece and I had a lovely new exhaust that fitted perfectly. Quick to respond to emails and calls. Very impressive and including VAT I spent just over £300 (which included the new exhaust and the link piece). If only every company had such a genuine response to customer service.

In regards to Westfield ... they always seem to have "supplier" problems no matter what you need. They are also, in my humble opinion (and only based on my own experiences), poor at letting you know about any delays.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post about a replacement silencer and reassuring to hear all the positives about Wunoff.

Encouraged too by the intervention from Matt at WSL.  I owe it to him to get in touch and will do so when I get a moment.

One way or another I now have a few options to solve my noise issue.  Thanks again.
