Arm
Right If you have an early independant car (Escort English diff in a Westfield casing) then you want a pair of these. They are the splined shaft coming out of the diff running into the UJ. They can break without warning and they are no longer stocked by anyone. If I can get enough orders together for 14 pairs then the price is good and we have a production run (drop me a pm re price). I have firm enquiries for 7 pairs so far and need a little more interest to confirm the run. If you run over 125 hp then you are at risk of a failure, be warned. cast iron
Will these convert a splined type shaft ends to flanged type ends, or are they just stronger splined ends. If they convert I'm definitely interested.
Arm
Will these convert a splined type shaft ends to flanged type ends These are splined stub axles with a boss on one end that can be mated to a flange / cup (eg. 6 bolt Sierra which is what I intend to do). Equally for those that wish to stay with UJ's they can be mounted to those also. Because of the array of different sized UJ's or for those that wish to do their own drive shaft I have decided to stop at the boss. Hope this helps
Adrian Elkin
Just been reading this topic with interest, as I run an English diff in my IRS car. The last time I needed this part a few years ago (2000), although they didn't have one on the shelf, Westfield quite happily welded one up for me within the hour. Is that no longer the case? If so, for what reason are they refusing to produce the part and does it affect production of parts for cars of the same vintage? i.e. diff casings, rear uprights, etc. Regards Adrian Elkin
Arm
There is no longer any stock of the splined stub axle. Therefore nothing to weld to a UJ. The call for stub axles is relatively small and with a high unit cost and a long lead time Westfield are unlikely to commission a production run and I have spoken with them about this. I have tried all known sources in the UK and no one has any left. Therefore I have had some made, the cost compares well with Westfield and the lead time is much reduced. So if you need some let me know (PM me) I almost have enough firm enquiries for a run of 28 parts. If you need some after this run then,, well tough,, unless you can find a source ! I believe the alloy casings are in stock, as are uprights. I dont have an opinion on whether they should or should not be supplying parts for early cars, mine was born from necessity as mine broke and as there were none avalable I had some made (at a v. high cost). This option makes more parts available at a better price; hence I will buy some spares so will anyone else who has broken theirs (and as you know they are a weak point). Arm
Thanks for the interest gents. I have received enough enquiries to ask for the batch to be run. I will get confirmation of the planned finish date and let you all know. If you enquired but did not say yes then I have 4 without names on them (therefore 24 have been requested).
