Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Meet at The Wheatsheaf, Baslow, DE45 1SR at 10.30am. I have a couple of ideas where to go and it will depend largely on who turns up. As usual at this time of year the actual date will depend on the weather. EDITED - DATE IS SATURDAY. Who is brave enough to come with us? 2 Quote

Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative Posted February 2, 2017 Author Posted February 2, 2017 SATURDAY is the day. I am thinking that we might go up to the reservoirs at Ladybower and on to the Snake Inn for lunch? OK? 1 Quote

Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative Posted February 4, 2017 Author Posted February 4, 2017 Ooh, I love surprises, and as I pulled into the car park at The Wheatsheaf, there was Andrew stood with Martyn and Sue, he had sneaked in under the radar. It was a bit chilly but the sunshine was warming the day up nicely, so after a quick bacon butty we set off through a stunning looking Peak District. After weeks of misty drizzle it was like someone had cleaned the windows. The winter sun cast long shadows on the grit stone edges and set them off nicely. The Wheatsheaf As it was so picturesque we went to the reservoirs by the Surprise View route. A tyre kick and a photo shoot at the reservoirs before heading up the fabulous Snake Pass to the Snake Inn. Just let me recap that one, we went up the Snake Pass in our Westfield's, Snake Pass - Westfield. I think that road was built with driving a Westfield up it in mind. The roads were a bit drier and you could go just a little bit faster than of late. It sets you off and the conversation over lunch soon turned to us all needing a 'Westfield Experience' day, come on @Trevturtle, find us a day, we have itches to scratch. At the Reservoirs The watery bit, reflections on the reservoirs The only reason we keep stopping is to hear the V8 start up, but don't tell Andrew that! We had lunch at the Snake Inn and as part of our drinks Sue had some left over hot water. Better not waste it then, so this mad woman (Julie) goes running across the car park to get the hot water bottle and proceeded to fill it with the said water. If you watch these Westfield drivers for long enough you get to see just quite how mad they are! The Snake Inn Building up an appetite for the next bit (thank you Andrew for the photo) A good place to finish the day off was at Chatsworth, the house looking spectacular with the low winter sun bouncing light off the gold (real gold as well) mullions. Chatsworth Vines Restaurant - the white chocolate and raspberry cake was popular, unsurprisingly. Glen and I have booked our hotel with Andrew and Clare for the Silverstone Classic in July, so it was great to meet face to face and discuss the finer details of the trip, as we have not seen each other since sorting it all out. Andrew has the dates for the Horsepower at the Hall events this year, so I will get them posted up separately and we all agreed that we must go back to see the Lancaster Bomber 'Just Jane' at East Kirby sooner rather than later. The company has been great today, where would we with out Martyn and Sue,and hopefully Clare will be able to come next time. The driving has been a bit more exciting, now the roads are drying up, and the Peak District scenery has been at it's very best, thank you all for a super dooper day out. 6 Quote
