Matlock Mystery Tour - Sun 30th Oct

Meet at Artist's Corner Car Park, Matlock, DE4 3PS, 10.30am.

The mystery has kind of gone out of this now because we did it last year, but it was a very successful day so I am not changing anything.

I might as well tell you the plan. We will drive the 7 minute journey to Peak Rail at Darley Dale to watch the 11:05 steam train arrive and depart, hopefully having a photo of the cars with the train like last year. There is a very quaint tea shop on the platform for a quick refreshment.

Next we travel through lovely Peak District countryside, up the steep and twisty Curbar Gap to arrive 45 minutes later at Barrow Hill Roundhouse. Full of stationary steam engines around the turntable and a deltic shed, it has a smell and atmosphere of it's own. After a look around (free entry) we will have lunch in front of the real fire in the canteen.

To finish off we drop 1 minute, it is a whole 1 minute mind you, down the road to Nona's cafe on the Chesterfield canal at Hollingwood Lock for homemade cakes with tranquil views.

From there a left turn onto the main road will take you to the M1 at junction 30 or you can follow us back into the Peak District and home.

** this date will move to Sunday 30 Oct if the weather is bad on the Saturday** so please keep an eye on this post nearer the time.

This event will be held on SUNDAY 30TH OCTOBER, still meeting at 10.30 am in Matlock. The weather is forecast dry and, for October, quite warm.

Please be aware that the clocks go back on Saturday night.

Hopefully Rosie and I will be able to meet up at either the Roundhouse or Nona's but we shall be in the VX not the Westfield. I look after a blind lady target shooting in the morning, so can't get away to get to Matlock.

We were at Nona's on Wednesday, and yes, the cakes are excellent!

Ooh, if it's Sunday, I might be OK for this!

I can't make this as the other half needs picking up from the airport after her selfish trip to NYC  :d

I'll have to skip this sorry.  I'm out on Sunday helping sort out the stuff for Stoneleigh 2017..

Two days away in one weekend may involve a ceremonial burning  of the remaining Westfield weekend pass outs. :p

What a coincidence Ian, we also were at Nona's on Wednesday, about 1pm, we were watching the canal boat go through the lock. I have chosen the cake and I am having the chocolate one with the cream in the middle, not that I am looking forward to it much!!!

If you decide to go to the Roundhouse Ian, go past Nona's, under the railway bridges and take your next right, then it's an immediate left, very immediate. It's worth going, it's a bob on little place.

Thank you to everyone for letting me know that you can't come.

Well, I have lots of maybe's but no definite's for Matlock as I know Big Andy and Debbie are also otherwise occupied, isn't it too cold for caravanning yet?

Anyone coming to Matlock?

Me. :d

Got back early as many evenings as I could this week and finished the lights and bits and bobs so that I'd be OK for the weekend.
