I was there in my 1970 Midget in 1973 and learned very quickly to look out for dark patches on the roads in the Highlands. They were accumulated oil droplets where oil had been dropped from car undersides by the dips in the road shaking them off. My Midget had a ground clearance such that if I traversed a dip in the road at some velocity, the exhaust would ground and break the exhaust flare where it joins the manifold. :( See a dark patch, slow down briefly, then hit the pedal again! No sheep were harmed during the telling of this story...
