POC Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 So I'm sitting here at work, bored out of my tiny little mind.... thinking about warmer climes, driving the westie without freezing to death etc.... I come to think about upgrading the car for the summer, thinking wheels, tyres, roll bar, harnesses etc..... then I think 'hummm, more bhp' ( ).... ... then I think, who owns the most powerful westie in the land? ... then I think (obviously too much ) 400bhp is easily achievable from my engine, new turbo, bit of tweaking here and there and robert would be you proverbial fathers brother! Granted the car would be very hard to drive with the boost involved, but hey, these are just toys at the end of the day right! So, who has the biggest balls? 300? 400? 500? 600bhp? Lets see em (the westies! P Quote
NevilleBull Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 I've got all of 94 horses and I'm proud of it! But on Saturday I will have a rather nice new round figure! BTW, how much can you buy a cossie engine for then? Quote
FATBOY Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 I've got all of 94 horses ....I lie awake at night dreaming of 94 horses. ....plus a few sheep, but I am 1/4 Welsh. Quote
Blatman Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 I've got between 220 and 250bhp, (depending on who's rollers you believe) from a carb'd N/A Cosworth in my narrow bodied sprint car. Most powerful car would have to got to either Tom Green (Comp Sec) with a 400bhp V8, or Nobby Clarke/Ian Stinton (don't actually know who own's the thing) with a similarly powered, if not slightly more powerful, V8 as well. Both these cars run in the speed series, though, and are not road legal........ A turbo'd 400bhp Westfield would be practically impossible to drive "well" on the road, IMO, and if it's even slightly damp, forget it....... Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 I've got a DIESEL Citroen 110bhp Quote
hilux Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 Ive only got one bhp I care about But its the 180th and I love it to death Quote
POC Posted January 23, 2003 Author Posted January 23, 2003 lol only one reply on topic, gotta love this BBS Quote
Midds Posted January 23, 2003 Posted January 23, 2003 The new project should be good, I may have to use a Dutton Phaeton as it has a bit more room, but will rip off the nose cone and those rubbish fixed arched at the front. A 357ci small block chevy, performance headers, roller cam, twin four barrel demon street carbs mated to a getrag 5sp manual box. We estimate that this will have 440+ bhp without the 125 Nitrous kit that is going on it. On huge street tyres, this should run into the 9s on the quarter mile... ... and be able to be driven to the pub! Midds Quote
POC Posted January 23, 2003 Author Posted January 23, 2003 Hi Midds, Ive seen that PT run at the pod before, very very impressive..... is it your own car? New project sounds interesting! Im very tempted to take my car to c.400bhp but traction is a problem at the min with only 330bhp. What about traction control units? Quote
Midds Posted January 23, 2003 Posted January 23, 2003 The Car is run by Paul Marston Racing for whom I work as a pit mechanic and data analyst at the weekends - I also will be driving a bit this year. I don't expect to have any traction issues with the new car, if it is set up right, the weight transfer should be ok to get it moving without wheel-spin, although the nitrous will be on a .5s selay to get the car moving before firing in the gas. Tyre size and suspnsion set-up has a lot to do with this, although drag racing set-ups are unsuitable for the road, I am going to have adjustable everything so 10 minutes should convert it from a reasonably well handling road car to a kick-a$$ strip car. Mike dB Posted January 23, 2003 Posted January 23, 2003 POC - Racelogic traction control is all the rage for FF cars Quote
Jan Coombes Posted January 23, 2003 Posted January 23, 2003 I have 21 BHP That works out 182BHP PT Kicked the ass off a citty boy in his boxter the other day. Ha ha Here at Fluke even our pit bike kick's A*** Quote
Ian Gratton Posted January 23, 2003 Posted January 23, 2003 Paul... let us know how you get on with the traction control ideas. I think most systems use the brake/abs sensors and management units to work. Maybe I'm wrong anyone know for sure Ian. Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted January 23, 2003 Posted January 23, 2003 Ian I have been doing some research on the Race Logic system and visited the factory to have a demo. Pretty impressive. Works by cutting injectors. I have an installation manual and am getting familiar with it. Need to talk to Holeshot to check my injector set up before ordering. If a modern car then you can splice into the abs sensors. On a westy you will need to fit some disks. Some people use bolts on the drive shaft but 4 pick ups not enough. I have noted that the rear drive shafts on my XTR2 have abs sensor magnet rings already fitted. For the front I am hoping to get a friend to laser cut a slotted disk for me. Paul your ZEI doesn't have these so you would need to fabricate something. On the front space is a bit limited under the ducted cycle wings. What I like best is the launch control and adjustable rev limit. Paul back to thread my engine goes to Holeshot on wednesday and will have the 350bhp conversion (forged pistons, enlarged studs etc) Mad I know but a toy is a toy. If I can keep the weight around 485kgs then 720 bhp / t If you want more power I would have a chat to Harvey Gibbs at SCS in Peterborough (he knows the car). I was tempted to go for a bigger power upgrade but the problem is that whilst the power goes to 400bhp the torque will probably climb even more which will be difficult to put to the ground in 1st 2nd and 3rd - would be good in 4th and 5th. Best to go the route of top end mods that give power without torque and avoid massive turbo and boost with silly lag. Harvey will be able to advise. Also be aware that with more power comes more heat which might cause problems. David Quote
