I do agree, Dave. As if I have enough on my plate to build the whole car. At least I can get this painted and done before the kit arrives, which is fun. Did you change the gearbox oil in yours before fitting?

I'd change the engine and gearbox oil and flush through and bleed with with new clutch fluid before fitting.

Cheers Craig. It seems to be normal MTF oil for the box. Do they have a drain plug to get it out. Seems I need 1.4 ltrs. I will be changing oil and filters on the engine, as well as plugs and other sundries. I will check the clutch but at 45 k miles, should be fine. I am considering a lighter flywheel as a future mod, so as long as it lasts a couple of years, I'll be happy. Its not pulling the weight of an S2000 any more.

The box should have a drain plug and also a seperate filler plug.

 

 

TBH the gearbox oil is good for 120k miles, but I'd do it anyway.  if you haven't stumbled across S2ki forums online (  http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/ ) it's worth registering as there's a wealth of info on the F20c engine and gearbox on there.

 

A couple of people have mentioned the lighter flywheel mod, but I'm not sure i'd do it. If I remember correctly the light flywheel combined with the (standard) gearbox isn't the best combination in the world but read a few of the comments on here in case I've remembered that wrongly.

 

The clutch will be fine but I dare bet the fluid will be black and horrible, plus it's not the easiest to bleed when in-situ.

I'd use the Honda gearbox oil, it's not dear, and yes, I changed mine; I let it drain for a good few days as it was cold and thickish. It won't have got it all, but enough to be worthwhile.

I used all Honda parts, I just brought a service kit, plus the Honda gear oil, slave clutch cylinder, clutch.

Another consideration Justin is buying Westfield's baffle plate for the sump, you need to get it welded in, but I have the Honda putty sealant for when you put the sump back on

I did the same, used all Honda fluids/service parts, with the exception of engine oil, but that's only because I have a particular favourite that I've always used in my Westfields.

Oh and you'll need a new alternator/water pump multi-v belt for cars without AC.

I'd also be changing the clutch you would be kicking your self if you hadn't, then had a problem.

I pick up a new one for £120, no brainier really!

That's the thing. Just starting on the 'consumables' scenario. I'll not go into too many details as have the build thread started. Luckily our delivery drivers wife works at one of the big motor suppliers and I asked if she could help me out. He said no problem and said she can get it for what they buy stuff in at. So every little bit helps. To be honest, my Zetec ran on Comma oil nicely at 180 bhp. This was made by Silkolene and is good stuff. You'll find Honda don't make oil, just buy it and badge it. I will be dropping oil annually anyway and probably every couple of years in the box , so I am sure that what she can get will be fine. I have to recoup the over budget already , as still have no wheels !!

Absolutely, just a case of getting the right specs - note though that Honda do use one or two less typical spec fluids and greases on the S2000, but all is perfectly substitutable with the right alternative,.
