AdamR Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Afternoon all, Just thought I would offer a sneak peak into something I've been working on recently - cycle wing brackets for Westfield alloy uprights. Typically these appear to be tricky to get hold of, and / or with long lead times quoted, so in the next couple of weeks I will have these on the shelf for immediate dispatch I will be able to supply them bent or unbent, powder coated in satin black (4 stage process including etch priming to ensure excellent adhesion, carried out by a "one-man-band" with over 25 years experience) or raw. Custom colours will be available with associated additional lead time and cost. I have some samples away at the coaters today to get final costs for this process, so pricing is to be confirmed, but it's looking like a pre-bent set in satin black will be no more expensive than the Westfield items despite a more modern design of improved durability, and with immediate availability. Also looking at doing some for Cortina uprights if there would be interest..? Cheers!Adam 5 Quote
Kingster Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Adam - you sure you mean Sierra? Look more like they'd fit the Cortina geo factory alloy uprights to my (untrained) eye? Sierra uprights are very different - although not seen any alloy ones, so could be talking tosh! Quote
AdamR Posted February 16, 2016 Author Posted February 16, 2016 You know what, I think I've just dropped a clanger... They fit the Westfield Alloy uprights (I have one to confirm fitment), which I now gather are a different cycle wing bracket fitting to either Sierra or Cortina Ford OE uprights. Post edited - thanks for drawing that to my attention! Quote
Wills 57 Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Hi Adam I have a sdv front hubs are from a Sierra I believe, and the cycle wing carriers are welded onto the back of the hub they keep braking as are only hollow tube ! Would be interested if you could supply me with a pair not sure how they would attach onto Sierra hub ? hope this makes sense to you Thanks William Quote

TableLeg Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Nice work there Adam Good luck with this project. Quote
B.RAD Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 I'd be up for a set for cortina fitment if you're making them Ads Quote
Wills 57 Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Thanks Chris for the heads up will give them a phone I am at my wits end must have broken and rewelded about 20 times Thanks William Quote
Rory's Dad Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Just a note to say that bending the brackets is not a good idea to centre the cycle wings to the tyre - much better to cut a bit of ally tube (from B&Q) to space the brackets off the uprights correctly. Quote

But, there is a good thread here which helps with identifying front upright types: http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic/94606-identifying-different-types-of-front-steering-uprights/ It does look like the MK ones will fit, but appears they mount in a different way, offering a bit more support. Nice work there Adam Good luck with this project. Thanks I'd be up for a set for cortina fitment if you're making them Ads Cheers Barny! Going to get on with designs in the next few days hopefully. what will the price be Adam? Hoping to do a pair of the alloy upright ones at £100 a pair coated and bent, plus delivery at my cost if required (about £9) - but need to hear back from the powdercoaters on exact costs, and also confirm I am happy with the quality. Just a note to say that bending the brackets is not a good idea to centre the cycle wings to the tyre - much better to cut a bit of ally tube (from B&Q) to space the brackets off the uprights correctly. Makes sense Martin! I have some 1/2" OD x 1/4" ID alloy tube so can custom make spacers to the nearest mm for anyone requiring them, should be able to do 6 for a tenner if needed Quote
AdamR Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 Got a set back from the coaters today. I had been asked to copy and mirror a Westfield item as one had got damaged on a track day, so the owner had a pair again. The coating has come out really nicely, very impressed So, will get a small batch made up asap and get them ready for sale Quote
TAFKARM Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 They look great! Are the mounting points the same for the Westfield alloy / none alloy uprights? Quote
AdamR Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 Cheers! I don't think they are, most / all of the common types should be covered in this thread: http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic/94606-identifying-different-types-of-front-steering-uprights/ Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 The coated article in the last pic has the small cross brace from the first pics missing? (the one with Clear R on it) Quote
