Scumbags 1 - me minus 1 (car)

Had a crap end to nice meal with friends tonight.

Some scumbag had the balls to walk into my house while we were entertaining, steal our coats and use the keys in the pocket to nick my car!

Luckily it was not my beloved westy just the year old tin top.

Not a happy bunny and still can't quite believe the sheer audacity of the thieving gits.

Really sorry to hear that Chris, that seems to be the way cars are nicked these days, pinch the keys from the house. But look on the bright side, it will have been insured and no-one in your family was hurt.

That's alarming! Really sorry for you and your family

Have heard of similar being done. As Nick says family are ok, which is number 1 priority.

Really sorry to hear that. Thanks for sharing though, I have been previously guilty of leaving my door unlocked on occasions. Now I always lock my door and set my house alarm before I go to bed. It's never been so attractive for thieves to steal with such ridiculously lenient sentences given by the courts.

Can only echo the above Chris :(

On the other hand, does your partner AO Nick have an alibi? He's a bit quick off the mark to express his sympathies - makes me a bit suspicious. :d

Do the police think there is any chance of getting it back.

There will be little chance of recovery. The cars stolen like this are usually to order and will be either stripped already or in a container on the way to Romania or such like.

We have door alarms on our doors but locking them is the only real way to stop this.

Its a good job there is a swear filter.

That's terrible. Where was your 'security hound'? I hope they crash in a ditch on the moors and die a long painful death...............

Bad news Chris, they have the nerve for anything these days  because theres no serious deterrent or consequence to their actions if they get caught, thieving scumbags.

I bet they left finger prints all over the place, but I also bet they won't be gathered :(

What was the car, Chris?

Scumbags! I had simlar thing a few years ago, just hope you don't have the hassle I had with insurance company etc.

Terrible news Chris, but as the others have said, at least you and your family weren't harmed directly.

Fingers crossed you get it all sorted out ok.

Really sorry to hear this. We have an alarm that bleeps when any external door opens although if they come in and you hear and confront them it may end up a worse situation. The best solution is as said earlier in the post to lock doors at all times but what a reflection on society that is.

Thanks for the comments folks. Still a bit dazed to be honest, not much sleep last night. All new locks fitted at 3am by emergency locksmith and garage secure.

Hoping insurance isn't a problem as that really would be a worry as the car (Honda civic) was only a year old and on contract hire.

Found the coats earlier while walking dog and police have them for forensics.

Neighbour has the actual theft on cctv at 18.47 last night just as we were all having a pre dinner drink. We actually heard the door and assumed a guest had failed to close it on the way in and it was just the wind.

As has been said though, it's only stuff and we are safe.
