Which temperature sender for a Detroit CVH ?

Hi y'all,  just a quick question:

My almost complete engine swap progresses, but temp gauge on old XR2  CVH was connected to the Kenlowe thermostat which takes it's reading from the coolant in the radiator, so from cold, takes a few miles to register in the cockpit gauge.

Would like to take reading from temp sender in the engine block so have now put a sender there, BUT have been told that it is important which sender unit is fitted since they can give spurious readings if the wrong one is fitted.

The Ford sender units appear to be colour coded, so my question is this :

Which sender unit do I use for my Detroit built 1.9L CVH with Burton stage 3 head?    How important is it to get the right one?

Any help much appreciated.
