John K
"Disconnect battery to avoid damaging electrical systems" Is the apocryphal warning on my super duper battery charger. Yes Mr Grumpy is being charged after I flattened the battery trying to start him (got to love mechanical fuel pumps) And I had to giggle on reading that warning as I looked at my 30 year old engine looking for anything electrical that I actually gave a poop about... Fingers crossed the weather holds for a mini blat this avro.
Lyonspride
I think they put those warnings out just to cover their backs. They have to assume that everyone is an idiot. At the end of the day, it'll charge at a maximum 14.4v, which is the same as your cars alternator puts out OR rather any decent smart charger will limit at 14.4v. But you probably don't want to use the cold weather charging mode if still connected, as this kicks out 14.8v. That said I always disconnect before charging, in fact I always disconnect when the car is not in use, I have one of those "discarnect" things on the - battery post, so it's nice and quick, no spanners.
