Steve M
Hello all, I've noticed that my right front cycle wing is hitting my bodywork on full right hand lock, is there a way I can stop this by adjusting something? I've not long had the Geo set up, so wouldn't want to mess that up Also, is there any point mentioning if there is some sort of touch up stick available, Im guessing not, as there are so many variants
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Westfield use "lock-stops" within the bellows of the steering rack normally to prevent this. They're just collars either bolted on or sometimes permanently built in, that limit the travel of the steering rack's innards. If you don't have them, it's possible to retrofit by sliding the rubber bellows back and bolting them in. It's not something as far as I know that Westfield can supply, but places like RS Components do bolt on collars that people have used in the past. Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
As for touching up, it's a tricky one. You can buy pots of gel coat to fill deep gouges, but as gel coat fades with time and can vary ever so slightly batch to batch, it's probably not going to be perfect. Your best bet is to go to your local trade paint supplier and get them to colour match the bodywork and make a small pot of paint up for you. (Or fill an aerosol if you prefer). Stu Faulkner
I have used T-cut in the past to clean of marks and light scuffs and then polish afterwards. Heavier scuffs can be worked on with 1500 wet and dry.
Aerodynamix Ltd
I've seen jubilee clips used before Steve , you would only need to slip the rack boot off and if you undid the jubilee and did it back up after you has slipped it over you would not disturb the track rod end then and your new set up , as Stu said you could try flatting it off and then perhaps some g3 after flatting it .
pete g
you can fit steering lock stops or fit wide track body work is easy just get some g3 rubbing compound and polish it out
Rab (bombero) Reid
What Julian (Aerodynamix) said. Gelcoat is more robust than standard paint so the light scuffing that you've got should easily come out. Still be patient however when doing it. lloydox
Just wondering was it hitting the bodywork before you had the geo done ?
Steve M
@lloydox..I don't think it was I've taken the boot clip off & pulled it back, there is a threaded part on the rack, I would have thought I could adjust the lock by turning the knuckle along the thread, but it won't budge
Kingster
I'm not sure - but I wouldn't be touching that (until someone more knowledgable comes along). Any 'lock stop' will be a collar style addition AFAIK.
Terry Everall
Unless you drill out the locking "pin" between the main body and the outer locking ring it not move!! BUT it is only removed to install longer or short arms and does not have a thread that alter the steering arm length. You can only alter the toe in at the outer ends If you ever do drill the pin out it needs a metal filler to reinstate it.
Westford
You don't want to be adjusting that, it is for adjusting the end float in the ball joint on the steering arms.
pete g
that is for adjusting the knuckle joint don't undo that .and you cant till you drill out the pin. the shaft between the joint and rack you can I believe you can fit a jubilee clip and it will stop the travel of the rack. I have never done it but people say its possible . I think that's where the westfield lock stop goes.
