Rory's Dad
I have a son who is a firefighter. He says Bank Holiday plus sunshine = congested roads and serious accidents and he has the statistics to prove it. Graham0127
Steve......wouldn't hold your breath......getting money or even apology out of a cyclist is unlikely. Had one come out of a side road, hit my front wing at the top of the wheel arch, smashed my windscreen, dented my roof and then got up and ran off ! A witness told me his name and address, so, I went to local police station and reported it. Had no joy getting any compensation and was told by the copper who took my statement 'don't waste your time, you'll get nowhere mate ' Maybe UKIP can ban them? alexander72
Sometimes when I'm riding my horse I wish I had a cyclist to keep the car drivers away from his legs - my horse is 16 hands 3 nearly and weighs more than my westfield so i'm very cautious when on the roads. I find that, like in life, there considerate and inconsiderate users of the highway on all forms of transport. I would say though that without fail, motor cyclists are incredibly considerate of my nag :-) I will try and post a picture of the big brown horse
tolf
Cyclists = mobile organ donors Who's going for the full set of organs first then? Maybe we could announce the results at Stoneleigh BBQ 2015.
Nemesis
I hear your pain...... I got so fed up with all the flavors of numpties on our roads that I bought myself a Roadhawk DC1 camera..... I've put the permanent wiring kit in and just leave the thing running, my logic is this.... if the accident isn't my fault I've got the evidence..... if it is my fault I get to eat the SD card..... and on the plus side I used it in court in January to argue with plod over the RED/Green Light issue.... I won but they seem reluctant to persec.... sorry prosecute the officer for the same offence they were trying to persec.... sorry prosecute me for..... so in short a very worthwhile investment. Yanto
Steve......wouldn't hold your breath......getting money or even apology out of THAT cyclist is unlikely. Yanto
Why not make it law that if they want to use the roads they have to have third party insurance....... just saying..... Nem.......... Well firstly you'll need to lobby your MP to bring it up the HoP, then if enough support is gained from MP's it could be turned into a proposal, then debated in House of Commons, possibly voted on and passed as law, debated in Lords passed as Law then accepted by Queen. But tbh, I think you might have a battle on your hands, especially when HMT tell HMG how much the Law will cost to put in place. I do agree with 3rd party cover, but how? There is no insurance market for third party cover for cyclists nor horse riders (latter as far as i'm aware). My Cycling 3rd party cover is through membership of a national cycling organisation, it is the only reason that i have that membership and at £40/ year it isn't cheap. But how do you control it? How can you ensure a 7 year old kid cycling to his mates house has 3rd party cover? I certainly don't know.

It has to be on a scale of economy, I hear what you're saying about the market.... but.... if the bigwigs at the top made it a law it could be easily as cheap as £10 a year, and don't all bikes have a serial number? As for the seven year old.... the plod should let the kids be and allow them to ride on the footpaths...... it's the lycra clad loonies that I'd like to see have some sort of cover, I'm sure that they are not all a pain in the arris on the roads and I'm sure that a good share of those that are have been tainted by a bad experience from a motorist or two, but I have to agree with a lot of comments on here about how stupid some of them can be..... at least the humble farmer pulls up once in a while to let the traffic past. XTR2Turbo
Most cycling clubs now require that members have 3rd party insurance to join club runs and most serious cyclists will have cover via CTC or BCF. Was he wearing a club shirt? In Belgium they have an annual 'tax' disc on bicycles.
