KugaWestie
I hope you come back Norman, your stories and advice are well received by most. But only you can decide if you can play by the rules. If you dont like the rules and cant play by them then maybe best to move on or get involved and help steer the club in a slightly different direction. But whatever you decide please dont just sit on the side lines taking cheap shots at those that give up precious free time to run the club. Welcome back Bang on the money this post is for me

Marto303
Stay Norm Stay The establishment needs people like you to keep them in check, I'm not saying you should flout the rules, no no no, but this is a free country ( as is France ) and there are at least two sides to every debate / decision thats made here, you should be free to air you views without penalty so long as thats done without offence
jeff oakley
It would be great to have Norman back, being a grumpy old man like me with a long history in the motor trade he does have a lot to offer. As for the rules, these are fine if applied fairly to all, but in the past there have been occassions when some "appear" to have been treated harshly for petty things when others have done far worse and appear not to have been. Being a moderator is not easy as you are trying to be the arbitor of taste and decency in a world where the definition is so wide now from one age group to another. Jokes one might find funny others find distasteful who decides? They also have to keep an eye on things that are legally dubious, the Lord McAlpine case should be a warning of the responsibilty they carry. The club has to be a broard church where opinions are tolerated, discussed and disagreed without too much puritanical interferance. Arguing for the sake of it is not helpful and if change is required it should be done through evolution not through revolution.

iain m
Norman quote " got a bit annoyed at the manner in which certain moderators apply the rules" and will not go into detail. We had a similar conversation at the Sussex Christmas lunch with our AO who was resigning for a similar reason " and will not go into detail" and joining 6 other AOs for similar reasons. Perhaps we should all be made more aware of how to avoid falling foul of the present rules.

Mooch
http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php?app=forums&module=extras§ion=boardrules Is 3.2 meant to say this: "better to hide and then show than open the club to pecuniary damages" The way I read this is akin to "thou shalt commit adultery" ! Diggsy
I don't post a great deal, but I miss your posts they were always interesting and sometimes humorous, I missed meeting you with the Manchester crew on the tour last year so get back on here and bring a smile to the forum. :-)
jeff oakley
Norman quote " got a bit annoyed at the manner in which certain moderators apply the rules" and will not go into detail. Perhaps we should all be made more aware of how to avoid falling foul of the present rules. Difficult one this to know why people do what they do. I remember someone resigning on the Boardroom over a cat joke or some such reason but to them it was a big issue they felt strongly about. From speaking with Norman in the past I think the issue is that sometimes rules appear to be broken and the culprits are dealt with in differing ways. It is like when there was corpral punishment, lads from working class homes who broke the law got the birch, those from the upper classes were seen as "high spirited young men" and fined at the very worst. Any one who breaks reasonable rules should face the same punishment regardless of who that might be without any favour. If the rules are unreasonable they should be able to be challenged without the person who questions them being victimised in any way. If true that 6 or 7 AO's have resigned due to" getting annoyed" why not discuss this as we need AO's to commit time like the committe and be made to feel valued. Only posting to correct yet another slightly exaggerated rumour - the total number of AOs that resigned because they disagreed with changes made was precisely 1.
