felters Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 searched myself silly - but can't find a list of the classes/regs. I have a SEi 4age and am thinking about doing the southern events next year. I'm getting to old for autograss... it is a non-contact motorsport. No really. Quote
Richard M Green Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 This season's Speed Series regs were taken off the site once registration closed (late Feb). The key criteria for Class A (Roadgoing <1800cc) are: Road Registered with MoT, Insurance and Tax Full windscreen List 1A tyres (typically S-02, RE-720, A539 or equivalent - see Blue Book for full details) Suspension to factory pattern No sequential gearbox Silhouette above axle line to remain standard There are other isssues but I think I've covered the main ones If however you've won a first class award at an MSA speed event within the past 5 years then you'll go straight into Class C which is as per Class A but for 'Expert' drivers. A note of caution: If you run with an aeroscreen or List 1B tyres (A-032 etc) then you'll not be eligible for Class A/C and instead will be in Modified Road Going Class E and facing BECs with <1150cc engines. HTH Look forward to seeing you next season. Quote
peterg Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 and am thinking about doing the southern events next year that'll be just Goodwood then Quote
Blatman Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 Er, Dunkeswell, Wiscombe, Boscombe Down, and possibly Lydden and North Weald..... Quote
felters Posted August 28, 2003 Author Posted August 28, 2003 Blatman/all - thanks. You've just reminded me of the warm joy of racing in Formula Ford at Lydden - in the rain. Actually most of the warmth was confined to the lower reaches of my overalls as I came down the hill and through the right hander at the start of the straight - not a huge amount of run off... Quote
oioi Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 on a similar theme and out of curiosity (which as we all know killed the cat ) what class would i be in. road legal 2ltr Vx. aeroscreen. Sei. pretty much standard (?? what is standard, but you know what i mean) at the mo with a539s. would i automatically fall into something where i wouldnt have a hope in hell of being competitive? what sort of beasts would i be competing against? tar mike Quote
The Duck Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 . I'm getting to old for autograss... it is a non-contact motorsport. No really. Not another getting out of auto grass not quite as chep as it but cleaner and just as fun Quote
Blatman Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 Oioi You have what sounds to me like a "normal" Class 2B sprint car. You'd be up against me.........and anybody else on List 1a tyres with a windscreen and an engine above 1800cc......current players include Blatgirl Dave O, Terry Everall, Turbo Tommo (where's he got to?), Edden, and one or two other non boarders.......Tommo will be an expert next year, so he'll move to class D. Mark Minshull in his V8 is the man to beat this year (and will also move to expert status next year), although to be competitive in your first year of competiton is do-able, you'll need to have had some racing experience to show really well, IMHO. If you've had some race training, or done plenty of track days with some instruction, you'll be able to set some good times.....good times have *much* more to do with driving skill than how much power you have. I know this 'cos I regularly get beaten by crossflows, despite my car having a shed load more power than all of them........ Quote
peterg Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 Er, Dunkeswell, Wiscombe, Boscombe Down, and possibly Lydden and North Weald [pedant mode on]the first three are South West, the last two are South East....and they're all 100miles+ from me [/pedant mode off] and no, I can't afford to move either Quote
Richard M Green Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 ....er Blatters, the gentleman (Oioi) did use the word "aeroscreen" - is there something you're not telling me about the rules for next season? Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 would i automatically fall into something where i wouldnt have a hope in hell of being competitive? Nope you can beat Scott Cos with aero's that would put you into Class F Tut tut Blats - Do a search Quote
oioi Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 hmm. class F sounds quite far up the peckin order is it full of people taking it serioulsy and spending cash to be competitive? i just fancy a laff really maybe a couple of events (knockhill, croft elvington local stuff) *slowly takes toe out of water* *runs away* the gentleman (Oioi) did use the word "aeroscreen" ROFLMAO i dont think Ive ever been called that before OiOi Quote
Rob Navin Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 OI OI Don't be scared off. You will find that the fun element is the main driver for us all. You will be able to play with the boys in F without spending boat loads of cash on your car. You may not win every time but you will still have some great fun, especaly at Knockhill. And remember the racing is agains the clock so your main competition is your last time. Its also worth remembering that the racing is only half the fun... The main sport is the social side which is great. Quote
oioi Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 we shall wait and see what i do. if as planned i finally finish paying for it and the slippery diff goes in as a christmas pressie (from me to me cos i me and am worth it ) then i will check dates and make some plans depending on how flush i feel at the time. OiOi Quote
Sparky Pups Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 I too was thinking of joining in the fun next year my spec is very similar to yours oioi as in roadgoing 2ltr Vx, though I do have a screen fitted but no washers/wipers. Mark /Edit forgot I'm wide Quote
