Wile E. Coyote Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Following on from the supercharger thread, was chatting to the wife over the weekend about the idea of swapping the YB for a more powerful engine. Much to my surprise, when I mentioned there was a market for the N/A YB's, she expressed surprise that I'd consider selling it instead of putting it in something else... As it happens I've got a spare type 9 floating around so, although in reality I'd probably still sell it to fund any conversion, here's the question to start the week: if you had a spare YB + type 9, what would you put it in?For me the logical choice would be an early Escort, but what would you chaps do? Steve_Farrimond Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 It's relative to outlay chris, It would be great in an escort. Could always build a quick Anglia? Only my opinion but it'd have to stay a Ford car Quote
nearly done Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Love proper rwd fords but cant help thinking it would look at home in a Talbot Sunbeam ( not the Lotus version though!) Quote
SteveD Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 hmmmm the market means nuffin if your not selling it wuv Quote
mikef Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Now going to show my ignorance BUT on the basis that there ia no such thing as a stupid question as you chaps keep telling me....................What is a YB? Quote

Wile E. Coyote Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 Cosworth twin cam engine as fitted in the Escort Cosworth , with a turbo. 'cept mine doesn't have a turbo... Liking the idea of an Anglia, Steve. For me, a large part of big power in old cars is their capacity to surprise other road users - and an Anglia would certainly do that! Quote
Hammy Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 ford Anglia too , too many Escorts have been done already ! Quote
Norman Verona Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Confirmed it's a series code following the original ya. Someone says it's "You bastrad" when it breaks. 1 Quote
User0083 Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Seen them in many escorts, I agree a ford is where it should stay. But I'm really into "sleeper's" and think something like a mk1 fiesta. Keep interior traditional to the era with maybe cobra classic bucket seats, matching rear sear trim. Then exterior i would take to SteveD fir a gorgeous re spray... but keep body work as standard as possible. Yes fitting the engine in may be interesting? But a RWD mk1 YB powered fiesta would be amazing. Quote

User0083 Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 For me, a large part of big power in old cars is their capacity to surprise other road users - and an Anglia would certainly do that! Something I have always loved! All my cars have had standard exteriors, then I've updated brakes then engine. Except with the Westfield, that's more than fast enough and everybody in the Birmingham area say's how beautiful the paint is for it's age and people often think it's a Morgan! People think the 54 registration is a personal plate and the car is an old classic. They were exactly the same with my robin hoods. Quote
