Catch Tank

My catch tank consists of a small Castrol bottle zip-tied to my chassis.  Will this do me for the speed series or will I need something a little more professional?

Thanks

Jez.

I reckon you'd be OK, BUT, if you are going to the expense of making all the necessary purchases for safety, entries, and possibly accommodation, it would be a shame to fail scrutineering (and therefore lose your entry money, etc) because you were too tight to spend 40 quid on a proper catch tank and some hosing............

Just my humble opinion, of course....... :0  :0  :0

Yep, Rally Design do seem to represent the best value for a new catch tank, IMO. Motorsport News (out tomorrow) may well be worth a look, particularly at the companies selling Escort/Sierra/General rally spares............

Are the Sigg bottles a min of 1 litre capacity?

I realise I may be nitpicking, but so do some of the scrutineers........

As I said further up the page........*should* be OK...........but I'm not offering any guarantees. The *only* guarantee is to fit a "proper" catch tank. A "proper" catch tank would be one that looks like it was designed and constructed to do the job in an autosport type application. A square/oblong tank, with welded inlets/outlets, (or maybe Goodridge type threaded fittings), and maybe a way of viewing the oil level, would get past a scrutineer. If he decided that a bottle designed to carry a drink on a bicycle/in a ruck sack isn't suitable, you're knackered............

I really can't understand the "What can I get away with" attitude when a definite answer exists, and is comparatively cheap to do.........*shrugs*

Would you adopt the same cavalier attitude to buying a crash helmet? Probably not. If your oil catch tank is unsuitable/compromised, then in a worst case scenario, it will cause an accident, and may lead to a temporary closure of the circuit while they clear the oil up..........

Disclaimer. This is not a rant, just a strongly worded point of view............from some-one who has occasionally sufered at the hands of picky scrutineers...........

I used an aluminium water bottle for a push bike.

1 litre capacity, it's own mounting bracket, and a nipple to attached the hose too.  All I did then was drill a second small 'breather' hole in the cap.

Cost, less than a tenner.

We've been using a castrol GTX bottle for the last 5 years with no problems from the scrutineers!

An ally one would look better but it's heavier I like the water bottle idea!
