Norman Verona
NO, i've had enough. I'm cheering Torres for missing the penalty although he scored his fourth a few minutes later. 10 minutes to go and it should be 10-0.
mikew123
Norman Send me the files you have downloaded and I'll send you a cd/cd's with the contents back. It/they will play on any cd player# Done it for a guy that spent many visits to an Apple store that had staff that could not umderstand that he had a Hi-Fi and a car that would not play mp3. Open source software often works
Norman Verona
Mike, very nice of you but it's just not that important. I can live without it until I get a real CD. Just for the record (pun!) it's the last Joni Mitchell album recorded in 2007 after she swore she wouldn't make any more albums (in 1999). I'll be patient next time and wait for the CD to come in the post.
ajpearson
got to admit I am with you Norm, I have never downloaded any music. give it to me on a CD, or better vinyl
Norman Verona
I have quite a few vinyls. All Cat Stevens recordings, most of Joni, all Carole King, all Simon & Garfunkel and Carly Simons as well as many others. I also have an ancient Rotel amp which is HUGE and plays the vinyl very well. User0083
Well when I went all iThis iThat and stuff it was a pain to rip CD's, convert them and store it all. Then being a techy person at the time I rigged whole sound system to run off digital music, iPod, PC, laptop... Etc. so CD's were obsolete. Not bought a cd in about 3 years. Same as DVD's... Just took up space, collected dust and I've had 12 addresses in 10 years, so packing and unpacking all that clobber took ages! In fact I can't remember the last book I had. All done on iBooks through the iPad now! House is very tidy though and I can fit everything I own into a LWB transit sized van... Just! Except wife, cats and a few things in her tin top. Stuart
ITunes and Amazon will only ever give you MP3 or similar. Amazon are still selling MP3s at less than 200kbps. Diabolically poor quality for hifi. Some (legal) download sites offer music in FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) which is, as it says, lossless, and is CD quality. Most of my music collection (CD and vinyl) has been ripped or recorded to FLAC now. Like Cherry I don't use CDs anymore (except MP3 CDs in the car). darve
I dont have this problem........ my tintop is so **** it only has a tape player turn the radio on Norm, that's easy enough
Norman Verona
Have you ever listened to French Radio, I can get R4 on LW but it's very poor. I have a decent radio in the workshop which gets R4 on LW. I'll get the CD and put ir down to experience.
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Oh dear, radio in Europe brings back memories... When I was living in Germany, all we ever seemed to be able to pick up was the US forces "Z Rock" station. - always used to wonder why every US soldier that wrote in was a specialist this or specialist that, they seemed completely unable to just settle for a name and rank. Onliest Smeg David
Majority of 'Hi-Fi' sold on the High Street/Retail Park/Web is really 'Low-Fi' but there is still a noticeable difference between listening to CD/Vinyl/Lossless Digital and MP3 etc. Generally, including car audio, it is the speakers where most corners are cut sonically. If you have true High Fidelity Equipment then you don't justify the cost unless you only purchase high fidelity audio media! And Hi-Fi does not have to be expensive. I'll have to get in touch when I start getting around to ripping my large CD and Vinyl collection to FLAC, for top tips and guidance! Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
'Fraid my vinyl collection is securely boxed away in the loft now, couldn't bring myself to get rid. I've ripped some of the favourites to FLAC copies I keep on my server. But litterally didn't have the months/years of free time it would have taken to rip all the vinyl. I don't even have a record player any more, (thanks to eBay it's now in Japan, Norway and Germany (had to break it to get best return), and the money is now sat on the drive, invested in the Westfield. CD's were obviously easier. Just pop them in the pc drive, and batch rip with dbpoweramp. It's great, from having racks of audio gear to trip over, little but the speakers show these days, plus I get to browse what I fancy listening to from the iPad. Interestingly, it comes as something of a surprise how acceptable the higher bit rate MP3's can sound on a really good system. Then at the opposite end of the scale you've got the studio master style downloads; literally too big to fit an album on a CD etc, these 24 bit 96 kHz recordings are to regular CD's what the verry best of the Sheffield Labs vinyl was to ordinary vinyl and then some. Onliest Smeg David
My last record player was broken for spares as well as the Linn arm was worth far more than the value in repairing the turntable. Still listen to Vinyl when I have the time. The Loft isn't the place for them , there's some pretty good turntables out there for not a lot of £s. I listen to high bit rate MP3 in the car and I have to agree that the quality does start to become acceptable (after a speaker upgrade ) until I'm listening in the lounge again. I have contemplated downgrading my Hi-Fi for Westie upgrades, but I know I'll know what's missing when I'm listening!
