Rob Navin
Windy. I'm just looking at doing the same bulkhead mod on the escort to get the VX unit in. Have you got any dimensions from when you did yours and did the heater still fit ? Any info you could have would be great not to mention making Pauls life easier. Paul if your reading this get ready its on its way. Thanks Rob
Mark Stanton
and did the heater still fit ? It's gonna start soon Rob Let's hope you can get the heated seats to work
Rob Navin
Thats the only problem with tin tops, the windows do seem to steam up in some conditions. I don't think its going to have heated seats, heat may dammage the simulated leatheret. Besides will the regs for the 2003 Speed Series (Escort Class) allow for mods such as heated seats ? Let it start !
windy
Rob, The new tunnel stopped me fitting the new heater since I raised the height of it by a few inches. I ended up making my own heater from some Frontera bits & a Sierra matrix and located it in front of the co-drivers footrest. Almost blows the screen out of the car which is exactly what you want on those wet murky stages. To move the bulkhead back between 1 & 2 inches as i did involves removing the heater bulge in the engine bay first by drilling out the spotwelds. After hacking a big hole I then fabricated a 3 sided piece of steel to fit it. I wouldn't recommend reworking the bulkhead to this extent unless you are fitting a weld in cage with a cross brace along the base of the dash and triangulation to the front turrets. the front bukhead which aids torsional rigidity would be weakened slightly by the work. Most people who fit the 16v fold the flange flat at the back of the engine bay and stitch weld it, thus saving a lot of work. Graham
