Anyone fitted AVS Sports?  I have just got a set after much deliberation on SO2's, Toyo Proxes and A539's.  Eventually arrived at the AVS Sports which incidentally have only this year been available in 15 inch sizes.  So far as I remember the Treadwear Rating (normally an indication of softness) is the same as the SO2 at 180 the Traction Rating is only A and not AA as the SO2.  That said the SO2's are no longer available in 195 50 15 (or if you can find some are likely to have been around for a good time).  Discussions with Yokohama Competitions also indicated the AVS Sport as much better than the 539's.  SO3's appear to have had a very bad feedback and are in no way a replacement for the SO2's (they have better wear and noise reduction and have thus become a bit of a compromise).  There were also some interesting Falken's on display at the Autosport Show this year,  512's?? - I cant remember, but they appeared very soft (and cheap!;) but did not get 1A Listed for 2002.  I am told that they should be in for next year.

My comments on the AVS Sports?  Well they are considerably better than the four year old A510's that I have been running in the SS  but again I have not been able to run any back to back tests with other makes.

Like me, at the end of the day with the obvious choice (SO2's) no longer available it is a bit of a gamble.  It will probably not be till next season till we see if there is a natural replacement!

Interested to hear what you think of whatever you go for,

See you in the SS

I am almost certain I am going with the AVS, as I said George Polley Motorsport reccomended them when I approached them with the same short list as you, A539's Proxes and S02's. The verdict was Proxes-too expensive but on a par with the old S02's. Struggle to get S02's and S03 not as good and the A539 was good but the AVS was much better. So that was that, from the ratings and the write ups I agree with you, I have spoken to some of our tyre specialists at work (Jaguar) and they are full of praise but wear out too quick for saloon cars (I saw that as a good point for Westfields!;)

I think all in all I am quite comfortable with the choice.

Like wise I am running 15" (195/50) so with them only just being available I guess we are the guinea pigs but I can live with that.

Where did you buy yours from and how much were they, incl VAT and delivery etc. I have got them down to £35+VAT and £8 delivery for all four.

Will keep you posted on thier performance :)

On the subject of Faulkens, I have a set, or what is left of them on my audi, I was running Yoko's but got Faulken reccomended and at 1/3rd the price I thought I would try them. Very good, wet and dry, very sticky, longevity not too hot but then they have had a hard life :D

Could be an interesting and cheap alternative for next season if they get into the blue book, unfortunately I need tyres now.

£35 is what i paid + Vat etc, however i rang GP yesterday to get some more info on 205/55R15's & rolling circ. for 195/50R15's and was quoted £40 for 195's & £60 for 205's :0

So get your orders in quick befor prices rise :arse:

Mine are here now & i will be getting the fitted this afternoon, carn't wait. :D  :D  :D

Very impressed, even out of the box, they are very sticky, will need a bit of scrubbing in before the grip gets to its best I think, very progressive on the limit (when you eventually get to it). Not had any rain so dont know what they are like in the wet! Running them at 20 PSI for the minute, may drop that a bit as my car only weighs 470Kg, like driving a different car! But all things considered, a great choice. Will see how they fair at Curborough on Wednesday. Managed to get them fitted with valve and balance for £20 all in. Cheers to Harrowbrook Tyres in Hinckley (01455-615988), even better, a chap came in halfway through the swap and bought my old Dunlops (half worn) off me for £60!!

Oh...and they look great!! (I'm sure its the Yokohama badge) :D  :D  :D  :D

I will go for a proper drive this afternoon   & see how they perform on the twisty stuff!

Oh...and they look great!! (I'm sure its the Yokohama badge)

Quack,

They do the Yokohama AVS Sports in 16", and from what I can tell from this weekend they are an excellent tyre (see above), the Toyo Proxes and Bridgestone S02/S03 also come in 16". From a price and performance point of view I would recommend the AVS Sports! ring George Polley Motorsport 01354 688111, by far the cheapest, trust me I checked, a friend of mine owns a tyre and exhaust place and he couldnt even buy them in trade for what GPM sold them to me for!

Have fun :D

Ducky (Oooer Missus)

Hmmmm....I have had a quick look and you have chosen a rare combination (16"/40 Profile), the only ones I can find are listed below, the best thing would probably ring some one who imports. "Southam Tyres" or they may be called "Just Tyres" in Southam near Warwick would be a good start, they are a major importer and will know whats available in the UK, once you have your tyre costs/sizes, phone GPM and see what they have to say!

Yokohama Parada 205/40/16

Falken 215/40/16 (not sure type)

Pirelli P7000 215/40/16

Pirelli P Zero Nero 225/40/16

You may struggle fitting some of these widths in the arches though, not sure. You may have to go down to 15" if you want to buy a known sticky tyre.

I wish you will in your hunt, let me know what you find out :D

Remember that if you are after AVS Sports that it is only the V102 tread pattern that is MSA 1A Listed.  Whilst 15" are certainly V102 some of the larger sizes are not.  I am not sure if this applies to 16".  Check before you buy.

How you finding the New Tyres?

I've done a few runs in them now and they feel soooooooooomuch better than the concrete i had on before. :D

They feel much stickier and seem to give better turn in and less tramlining. :t-up:

My only worry is trashing them at Cadwell next weekend :0

I went to Curborough yesterday to try them out, fantastic, like driving a different car! Knocked 5 seconds off my fastest time with my old tyres, which were admittedly knackered but even so it made a #### of a difference, they seemed to be happiest at around 20 PSI. I wouldn't worry about knackering them, thats what they are there for!! Looking at them after yesterday I think a season is all you could hope to get out of them anyway, very sticky!!

Overall, I think, an excellent buy!!
