It's a bit of an oddball, this one.  It's been doing the for sale rounds for some time and there have been various conflicting posts on whether it's a genuine Westfield or a copy.  I do remember Westfield offering a hump free rear end as an option in their catalogue some time ago, but at the same time I'm pretty sure the factory only ever built XI's for a midget/sprite A-series engine as most other engines were too tall.  It might have been possible for a customer to modify one to fit a crossflow but I'd guess the sump may be pretty low, the seller does say it was built for racing/sprinting though.  What I find surprising is that the seller says he doesn't have a letter from Westfield verifying its originality but it should be easy to obtain one.  Verifying it's a genuine Westfield is key to its value, so why hasn't he done it?

As for price, the traditional WF XI's with midget engine, hump and solid heritage seem to go for 13-17k, and usually sell pretty quickly.  However, with something like this that's a bit different and has a little spot of doubt over its originality, there doesn't seem to be much appetite, and without being able to verify it's a genuine Westfield I'd personally keep clear of it..

Hump and hump free rear decks are in the on-line store.

Oh, and I seem to remember they have been made for other engines too, including a bonnet bulged version for something daft like a XE! (I only say daft, as to me it sort of defeats the object of buying an XI)

There's some interesting discussion about this XI over on Pisonheads.

The second gereration XI's were Ford based and shared a lot of similarity below the skin with the SEI including the Wesfield diff, escort rack and allegro column etc. The pictures in the sales brochures show just how similar they are :)

Well, I stand corrected.  It does look to be a second generation Westfield XI sports.  It would appear, if I've read the article correctly, that these were more an XI themed car than a true replica, with compromises to fit over the SEi chassis, engine, rear end and wheels.  It wasn't a commercial success, with some estimating only 4 being built.  On the plus side it looks to be a rare bit of Westfield history, on the downside there are all the reasons it didn't sell in the first place, i.e. being compromised away from the original XI bodylines and construction.

It was on ebay recently and ended at £9860, not meeting the reserve.  It's an interesting concept starting the bidding at a value higher than it reached less than a month ago,

hpi report comes back with westfield 1.7 reg 95 3 owners

That would reinforce it being a Westfield Sports as advertised around 1991.
