ajpearson Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Good point, but it's the Civic engine. Of which I have one waiting for the next project, brand new crated item Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Ariel arranged a deal with Honda and were supplied direct from the Swindon factory with engines/gearboxes. (Apparently!) Quote

Pistol Pete Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Do Ariel use the S2000 engine or is it the civic engine? and if you pop it in a Westy, you will have a really really quick car...... .....in reverse (I think its that one that turns anti-clockwise). Quote
Rory's Dad Posted February 28, 2013 Author Posted February 28, 2013 Just to pull this thread back on topic a bit.... Are there enough engines and gearboxes available for Westfield builders? Yes. Does the engine feel heavy? No (but the balance fore and aft is very good which maybe hides it) Is the engine bulky? Yes (V8 bonnet required) Is the gearbox tunnel wider than standard? Doesnt look/feel like it. I just think it's the best way forward for Westfield in the UK Rory's Dad Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I just think it's the best way forward for Westfield in the UK The more options the better Ford, honda etc. I would have thought that the main problem with the honda engine if you can't buy new is the risk of not getting a 'new registration' if using reconditioned engine, gearbox and diff. That's fine if you are building to get a Q plate but could be disappointing if you weren't expecting. and you get an on the ball dvla inspector. I wonder if a Civic Type R SDV kit could also be an option. The other thing is to consider the dry and wet engine weights. I understand the Honda engine holds alot of water compared to a Duratec. Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I agree Martin. Simon told me it was a T5 tunnel last year when I was enquiring. (It's quite a hybrid chassis development. But in a good way!) Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 There's a good, if expensive supply of used S2000 engines and boxes at the moment, but there's a lot of competition for them too, hence the price premium. I still think it's a great move for the factory though. If I was building another from new, it's a model I'd be very, very, tempted by! Quote
Dommo Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 agreed... I've been contemplating if it's a viable alternative to upgrading my Mazda SDV Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Simon "works on me" every time we speak Quote

Rory's Dad Posted February 28, 2013 Author Posted February 28, 2013 It's quite a hybrid chassis development. But in a good way! Apparently, this new 'hybrid' chassis will be the generic base for all new Westfields. However the Sport Turbo chassis has heaps of chassis sub assemblies and will always a bit 'different'. Everything felt quite optimistic at the Factory - I think they feel they are back on track. Rory's Dad Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Yes, speaking to Simon about it last year, there seemed a lot of excitement about the project - specifically having a more focused, more "enthusiast" targeted car. Interesting to see they may be toying with the idea of supercharging it too! Quote

Simon Westwood - Westfield Sportscars Ltd Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Dear all, Thanks for all the enthusiastic comments. The Honda S2000 engined product is really aimed at the UK market and perhaps is long overdue. it is aimed at the "enthusiast" market and I dont think for just over £2000 (used) you can get a better engine and gearbox configuration. You can build it track focused like our demo or with a screen and fully trimmed for more road use. Further upgardes to come will be throttle body kits and yes may be even the supercharged version if we get the demand and sales that I hope for. This months WSCC magazine has an advert for the kits we offer to suit the Honda engine and discounts will be offered to any WSCC member wishing to place an order. Please contact me direct if you would like further information. Kind regards Simon P.S Dave, I obviously need to push harder..... P.P.S Dommo like I said before, just think about how much fun we would have creating a spread sheet again.... Quote
