  1. I need some steering rack gaiters for a factory build 1998 Westfield SEiGHT. Spares Service told me that all Westfields have the same gaiters, but the ones sent seem short having only 8 or 9 (driver side) convolutions, whereas the ones on the car have 12 and 13 respectively. The Mk2 Escort seem similar to the ones sent by Spares Service. Searching the internet suggests the Ford Cortina Mk3 are closer to what are on the car. Does anybody on this forum have direct experience with this item on an SEiGHT?
  2. Hi All, I wonder if someone can help me. My Steering Rack has excessive play in it, so I am going to replace it with a new quick rack. I am unsure of what rack I need to purchase and whether my Wishbones are Wide track or not? Please see attached photos. Are there any measurements I can take to find out? Thanks James

    Steering Rack For Sale

Hi All, Steering rack for sale MK2 Escort standard rack RHD 3.1 These are £160 on the Westfield website garb a half price bargain at £80 http://parts-shop.westfield-sportscars.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=836&search=standard+steering+rack This steering rack was fitted on a new Westfield I brought and from new I did about 20 miles before I swapped it for a high ratio rack as I sprint and hillclimb the car and needed a quick rack. So the rack is as new and just has a couple or small marks from where it was clamped previously. Other than that it is as new. I will be at Wiscombe Hillclimb in a couple of weeks if that helps anyone who is interested. Alternatively they can be collected anytime from Padstow in Cornwall or sent via courier. Cheers Mitch
  4. Hi Everyone, I have recently gone from Megabusa to a Duratec powered Westy and I seem to be turning the steering wheel way more in the new one than I did in my old Busa. I'm assuming the Busa had a quick rack and the Duratec doesn't? Having sold the Busa I cant check the lock to lock turn on the steering wheel of that car but in the new Duratec from lock to lock is just over 3 turns. I have already ordered a 2.4 ratio quick rack from rally design (mkII escort type) which is arriving on Tuesday but didn't want to fit it if it'll be the same. They do also do a 2.2 rack and I'm unsure if I should of gone for that one instead and could possibly swap it if `i don't fit the 2.4 rack. I'm not worried about it be twitchy I like a very responsive feel which requires minimal steering wheel input. I should add I do use the car on there road occasionally but my main concern is having the best set up for hillclimbs and sprints and at the first event this season in the new car I was really struggling in the technical sections with the amount I was having to turn the steering wheel which is something that I don't remember ever being an issue in the Busa. I would be very grateful of any advice or feedback from past experiences. Thanks Mitch.

    Steering Questions

Been fitting the new standard Westfield steering rack on Mr Toad to replace the old slooowww Escort rack. I have two questions. First question. It looks like the original builder of the car has used M8 bolts to attach the universal joints to the steering rack and to the steering column. These should have an unthreaded shoulder to fit in the grooves on the rack and column splined spindles, but they don't. I'll be replacing them when the bolt stockist near me opens on Monday. Should they be M8, or 5/16th UNF? 5/16" is 7.938mm, so it shouldn't make any difference? Measuring it up it looks like I need an unthreaded shoulder length of between 15 and 20mm. Second question. I've set the tracking roughly so it can be driven slowly to somewhere where it can be set properly. Is, for example 1/2 degree toe in 1/2 degree per wheel, or 1/2 degree across both wheels? See diagrams below. Thanks, Jenny
