New member joining from Finland with 1993 factory built, luckily the spring is early this year so small outings are already possible

I wasn't the only person deciding whether to have the Sunday carvery only to be told it's Saturday, oh crumbs, so tomorrow will feel like Monday and I haven't a clue what day it is, it's CLUB day! yeah that's all that matters. Great to be out with our great car club!! Meeting earlier at Quacker's to have a quick look at my TPS values and general ecu numbers as the revs on cold start seem to be down at 600 rpm for some bizarre reason. Nothing glaringly obvious showed up on a warm engine and, now Ian Kinder has shown me what to do, I will look at the cold engine in the morning. Although Dave mentioned that the OMEX ecu's are clever little sods that can compensate for failing instruments, making diagnosis a challenge. Oh the joys of owning a kit car, never a boring moment, still it made for good photo's of the tread pattern on my shoes Here we are at Quacker's car park before Luke arrived Jake and Jim arriving Inside Quacker's cafe, inside because it was freezing outside Andrew had picked up a screw in his tyre resulting in a slow puncture, Ian Kinder to the rescue again. Luke arrived and we got a fantastic display of the mighty 3.9 litre V8's, these 2 cars are about as similar as 2 Westfield's get. No 2 cars are the same. Off we went on our run out on great wiggly roads with some of the most amazing views you can get in the area, we avoided the tourist spots and flowed very well. Well, most of the time, until I saw the warning triangle for the crossroads, thinking ah that's where we turn left. Nope, it's a farm track, then to the ruddy next one and same again, a farm track, finally on the 3rd warning triangle it was the road we wanted, Derbyshire County Council must have had a 3 for 1 offer that day on crossroad signposts. Worth it though for the view as you come down into Taddington, awesome. That bought us nicely to The Cow Shed, Tideswell where it was far too hot to sit inside, even if you were wearing shorts, Mr K. Waited 4 months for these! Got them fitted today, I even managed to corner weight the car and set the geo too!

My good lady wife Lady Colonial destroyed our next door neighbour once over his personalised plate. He was one of those people who was always trying to outdo everyone else with the latest gadgets or fashion - ostentatious to the extreme. We were out in front of our home one Saturday when he and his wife (think Harry Enfield’s “considerably richer than you” couple) rolled up in his Mercedes with a personalised number plate (sadly, W@NK8R wasn’t permitted by the DVLA). Him to Lady Colonial: “See my new number plate? See how they’re my initials?” Her, thoroughly unimpressed by it but especially by him, ice hanging off her words: “I see it.” At this point, I’m wise enough to see the warning signs and to just stand back and enjoy the show… Him: “Isn’t that great? I love mine! You should get one too!” Her: “Why?” Him, somewhat flummoxed: “Why?” ”Yes - why?” I could tell she was leading him into a trap, which was great because for once, it wasn’t me. Protip: Only marry a doctor of psychology if you’re smart enough to think before you say something stupid that gets analysed afterwards. Him: “Because they’re great!” ”Why?” ”Well…. for one, because it makes it easier to find your car in a car park.” Oh Lord, here we go… Her, logic mode in full power: “Do you normally park in car parks full of silver Mercedes, making it difficult to easily identify which car is yours?” ”No, but…” ”Or is it that your memory is failing due to your advancing age, and you can’t recall registration numbers but you can remember your own initials?” Ouch! ”Well no of course not, it’s just that…” ”Do others call you by your initials to save time? Do they call you “GRS”? Because if they do, that would make it easier for them to find you on the road.” ”No…” ”Then why do you think I should have one? Because I don’t have any of those issues and if you don’t either, I fail to see the point.” ”Because they’re great!” Her, looking thoughtful: “Hmmm - I see. Fascinating. I must go inside to study this in my books.” She then turned and went into the house, leaving him befuddled and me fighting not to smirk. Him, to me: “What did she mean by that?” Me: “I’m not qualified to answer that question, but if you pay her £90 an hour, she can help you answer it yourself.”

Looks like a nice run out. We missed it due to being down in Dorset, where we have just randomly bought a horse trailer. At least we will have when Monzo believe we’ve not fallen for a scam!

Not quite the postie... had to drive to Kent, but worth the journey. 3.9 LSD with new crown wheel and pinion for the XI.

That was a really enjoyable run out. Sorry I was late arriving (only 5 minutes) and had to leave early. The car was looking well used when I got home but at least it stayed mainly dry.

It's hard to know, it's difficult to confirm if the Westfield is yellow under all the bugs and flies they attract.

That rain was quite heavy at times driving back home, did not envy you guy's at all.

There was a glitch in the Matrix. This meant that some members could not see their membership number in their profile as normal. But that has now been fixed using pixie dust and duct tape

orange the best colour there is for a westfield and 10mph faster than any other colour.

I first met Dave & Karl when they were based in Brixton. That was a 'fun' experience! Fitted the first of his 16 load site ECUs to our Marcos - sadly, the car embarrassed itself part way through the mapping session when the starter stopped working. We fiddled & faffed for a bit, Karl raided a nearby LandRover V8 for a replacement starter, that sadly didn't fit...we then had the bright idea to test the one we took off(!), found it was OK so refitted it...then while Karl or Dave (I forget) cranked it, I was underneath and spotted the clutch flexi glowing red hot. The engine earth had corroded. Doh. Fixed that and away we went again. Thankfully it was a PTFE lined braided flexi so it took the heat without damage. Very long story short, but I'd fitted the Emerald to cure a persistent issue with the Lucas 14CUX setup the car had. I'd had some machining done and parts supplied by a V8 'guru'. The engine stalled at every junction - couldn't find why. It spent a very long time with the guy who provided me with the parts & tweaked chip for the ECU but he gave up in the end with no fix. You can probably imagine the joy of navigating London in a car that stalls every time you come to a stop. After Dave had finished mapping the Emerald, we drove home and it was transformed. Only quite recently did I discover what the original fault probably was - no road speed signal to the Lucas ECU coupled with a very light flywheel. To this day I think the guy gave me the wrong flywheel.... Anyhoo, that was the start of a long and fruitful (for me) relationship with Emerald. Still have one of their older ECUs on the Westy, the Stratos replica I had with the supercharged Alfa V6 running mapped water/meth injection etc etc was running on a much later Emerald, I've installed them for a few people over the years too and will always recommend them. I know I've tested Dave's legendary patience on a few occasions - hope he forgives me.

Hello All, April has arrived and the weather is getting better I expect some cars may even be off SORN. The April meeting should be this weekend 5th April. As it's a holiday weekend and a lot of us are away I'm pushing the meeting back a week to the 12 April. Hopefully the weather will be nice and more of us will be available. Excellent, I've known Dave for about 40 years and been an emerald mapper for nearly 30 .. walkers workshop was always the first thing I turned to in the old cars and car conversions magazine. Always a brilliant read. Very clever man.

I'm in Leeds so tend to frequent Northern tracks, but Bedford, Mallory, Donnington and my fave Cadwell also good options. First time I've messaged on here so maybe DM's better to keep in touch.

Having worked at a car manufacturing plant for 30yrs inspecting just about everything to do with new cars and what is allowed etc.. The book of regulations is staggering, I mean staggering. Spacing for any letters and characters has ALWAYS been subject to tolerances and never altered. What did alter was lazy police enforcement. Anyone who changes the font has to be pretty vain. If you're moving characters to read a word that STILL doesn't read the proper original word.. Hmmmm
