  3. Heading back home from Dartford to Crewkerne the other night in the tin top, a rather large black 4x4/truck roared up behind me on a dual carriageway section of the A303. I was travelling at a reasonable lick myself, and could not easily pull over to let him through as the left lane was busy. The traffic in front slowed a bit so he proceeded to repeatedly drop back then race up behind me to within about 6 inches of my bumper, flashing his lights, not pleasant. All I could do was maintain a steady pace and hope he didn’t actually ram me. After a while, I was able to pull into the inside lane safely and he overtook, then pulled in front and brake tested me; something I was fully expecting so was well prepared. This is where the story becomes more positive and faintly amusing. As he headed off towards a roundabout, a dark blue Volvo estate pulled alongside me, the passenger window came down and the guy indicated to me to slow down a bit ( I did say reasonable lick!) They then headed off keeping up with the truck but in a fairly subtle manner. As we came off the roundabout, there was a convenient lay-by and the blue lights came on the Volvo and Mr Big Truck was nicked! I made eye contact with the driver as he got out; I don’t like to gloat but it was a satisfying moment. I hope they did him for dangerous driving, as that’s what it was.

Trevor and Kirsty came to see us as did Richard and Casey. Jake came as far as Bakewell and the poor lad had to go to a Christmas doo. 12. Hi, first post. Built this car over 20 years ago, sold it after a year, and bought it back last year ! Just spent the last few months sorting out and re-commissioning all the mechanics after not being on the road for the past 17 years. Picture taken this week just before it was taken for a pre MOT check over, and MOT test next week. Looking forward to getting behind the wheel again after all these years ! Barry.

  13. Inspired by @AndrewBClarke's great 4 day blat over the weekend. I decided to head out early yesterday(before 6am) and ended up covering 397 great miles over 12.5 hours (I did stop in for Coffee @CosKev) on the way home). First half of the run- Thanks to @David Bennett for sharing a route he'd done earlier this year, which formed part of my morning. I particularly enjoyed this part- 2nd half of the run- Looking moody over Snowdonia but not a drop of rain fell! Craig Goch Dam Lunch break- Pen y Garreg Dam The Dam baguss fan club- Damn reversing! Mainly light or no traffic. It's probably the longest I've driven in a Westfield in a day and it didn't feel like a chore. Though I did sleep well last night !

  17. I would like to wish all my freinds have made over the 20+ years as WSCC member 16 years as the Lancashire AO a fond farewell, my membership is up for renewal and have decided its time to move on, I have my Honda S2000 and I plan to get a few jobs done on my Focus RS Mk1 and put her back on the road, should have more time now I am retired. Elena and myself have had some wonderful times in a Westfield, 4 Coast to Coast trips, a fantastic trip with Manc's area to Spain and France, Scottish trips with the Lancs area, the Lanc's Manc's and Yorkshire area meets in Skipton and not forgetting the Manc's v Lanc's rivalry in the annual quiz night at the Green Man, especially keeping Hurdsey quiet was amazing🤣🤣🤣 I plan to keep in touch with some very good freinds I have made over the years Adios Amigos Steve

  23. Dear Members, The Club invites you to join the 2024 TLWN2 tour which is a 2-day weekend event covering 330 miles of the best driving roads in the UK 😎 The Club successfully ran The Long Way North Tour back in 2008 so we thought it was about time for a re run! Based on the route of the Pennine Way, our tour takes in some spectacular scenery and some of the UK's best driving roads as we make our way north from Edale, Derbyshire to Berwick-Upon-Tweed in the Scottish borders. The route will cover: 150 miles on Saturday 22nd June (meet at 9am set off 9:30am approx) Buxton to Scotch Corner. and 180 miles on Sunday 23rd June, travelling from Scotch Corner (set off from Hotel at approx 9am) to Berwick-Upon-Tweed. The Club will provide a comprehensive roadbook for this event as well as promotional clothing and stickers. The roadbook is a very detailed explanation of the route. It uses a combination of tulip diagrams, road signs and descriptions of the road ahead and also includes fuel stop locations. The roadbook is guidance only and further instructions on navigation will be included within the roadbook to be issued closer to the event. Ideally you need a driver and passenger to help navigate the route along the way. Here is an example of what you will receive: Another example to demonstrate its not all cattle grids! Saturday evening (22nd June 2024) will be a social stay over at Holiday Inn Darlington A1 Scotch Corner. Guests are free to use the Active Life Leisure Centre, with its swimming pool, fitness centre and hot tub. A range of beauty therapies are also available. The Club has secured 20 discounted rooms (see current allocation below) to suit our preferred booking options as per details and costs below, please note bedrooms are non refundable after 30 days prior to arrival. The room rates include breakfast and should the guests require dinner, this will be a £30 supplement to the bed & breakfast rate as below: · £120 per Double bedroom, based on 2 guests sharing · £140 per Twin bedroom, based on 2 guests sharing · £110 per Single bedroom, for Sole Occupancy · £30 dinner supplement, per person to include 3 courses. Charlotte has advised your card details are noted but payment is not taken until 30 days prior (unless to wish to pay on booking). Once you have booked your accommodation please let @Marcus Barlow - Show and Events Co-ordinator know so the club can keep a tally on numbers attending. Hotel bookings are on a first come first served basis although we do have options to increase the number of allocated rooms if required. Please note this is a non-competitive event! 29. We have just returned from a fantastic few days away to the ring. My lad wanted to experience driving abroad now he's old enough too and suggested the Nurburgring. It seemed like a nice little trip in the Westfield. Not too far 320 odd miles each way. A total of 800 ish miles in 3 days. We got the tunnel across to Calais (£160 each). We travelled along the E42 (avoiding Brussels on the E40) but dived off that at Verviers and went down past Spa and towards Prum and Gerolstein. That last hour or so was beautiful driving roads. The temperature got hotter and hotter as we got closer. 25-26 deg the whole time and not a cloud in the sky. After a few fuel/lunch stop we arrived at our base for the next few nights. The Gantry, in Drees. https://www.facebook.com/thenurburgringgantry Just a couple of kilometres from the centre of Nurburgring. Lovely quiet little village. Owned by a friendly British family. The place had everything we needed. On suite, comunal kitchen, games room etc, plenty of parking both on the driveway and in the barn. All felt secure and I left mine outside everynight. Priced at 100 euros per night for a twin room, I thought that was really good value. Nicks wife Tanja informed us of directions to the various places we wished to go. The area is easy to navigate and all on perfect tarmac twisty roads! A fuel stop nearby, the famous "you tube corner" properly named as Brunnchen just down the road, Nordschleife, the entrance to the circuit the other direction. That evening we did our first lap of the ring after purchasing a Green hell card (which you just top up as required) from the ticket office at the track entrance. It wasn't too busy I was told for this time of year. The evening session was 5pm - 7.30 pm. During the day time the circuit was hired for Gran Turismo which was fantastic to watch. As they all exited off we went. You pretty much just drive on and drive off as you wish. One lap cost 30 euros, (£26). We bumped into Nick after at the Devils diner and he took us out for a couple of laps in his own Renault Megane Cup 250. (that was an eye opener! and made me realise how slow we were!). There was a good mix of cars ranging from day trippers that had left their caravan at the camp site and popped down to drive the ring, and local regulars in Lambos and Corvettes! I can honestly say I have never seen so many Porsche GT3 RS's. They were everywhere! After some dinner at an Italian restaurant called Lucia up by the visitor centre we had an earlyish night as we were knackered. The following morning, we spent the day exploring the twistys, watched some more racing at various points around the 20km circuit and visited the toboggan for a giggle. We had lunch at the Cock Pit, in Adenau and then was ready again for the evening session. After a few more laps, getting more confident and a bit quicker each time it came to a halt when a German crashed his BMW quite badly and the circuit closed for a while. At that point, we decided to quit while we were ahead and spectate the rest of the session knowing that we had successfully done enough laps each to justify our proudly placed stickers on our cars! We enjoyed some more twisty sunset lit roads before bed for the last day. Next morning, more coffee and croissants in the sunshine sat outside a local Patisserie started the day. We visited the Nurburgring museum which was fantastic value for 11 euros. Very interactive and some amazing cars and simulators etc. We then did the electric go karts at the Kartbarn next door. Again, 15 euros for 10 mins, and these were impressive. If we had more time we would have done more of that! But we had to head home for a late evening train back to Folkestone. The route I chose was twists across the Ardene towards Namur and then back onto the E42. It wasn't as impressive as the way down. Next time i'd go that way both ways. The traffic was a bit heavier and lots of HGV's on smaller roads which you got stuck behind and had a job to pass which became frustrating in the heat. But you get the idea. If its on your list. You need to experience the place. I have never been anywhere quite like it before. Pure petrol head heaven with super cars everywhere you turn. My only negatives. I wished we had planned maybe another day or two and taken some suncream! If the weather was poor, it would not have been as great as it was. We were extremely lucky. When we got off the tunnel in the UK it was grey and drizzle... For anyone thinking about it. Read up on the risks if you are unfortunate and have an accident. Also look at the official website diary to check what's on. 2-5th June was a massive Rock Am Ring concert so the area was getting really busy as we were leaving. Also on weekends the tourist drives are open all day (providing no other car event is on) and I'm told it is much busier on the track. So personally I like the idea of exploring in the day time and track session in the evening. One place we never got too as we ran out of time was the Geierlay suspension bridge. Not too far away, no doubt a nice drive there and something a bit different to see. I'm sure there's loads more also to see and do. https://www.racetracker.de for all your track photos which are good value and available next day. Anyway. I hope this inspires someone else to visit. If I can provide any more info just ask. I'm thinking of organising a future trip in the Westfields. Ben

  30. I feel I can finally add a picture justifiable for this thread..... Tax ran out in 2007 and it was used as an expensive storage system gather dust after being built by myself only 5 years previously to that. Used as our wedding car in 2004 and then the purchase of a house in need of love and attention in 2005 meant it was put to one side whilst we renovated the house, and then daughter no 1 followed by no 2 came along and finally I got my mojo back and here we are....she is reincarnated!!!!!! I'm biased but I absolutely love the blue and the photos do no justice for the actual colour 😎. Oh by the way, I still fit in the same Westfield Race seat (just about😅). MOT booked for a week tomorrow 🤞

  31. Thanks to the long weekend I’ve got the bracing welded to the top of the chassis. Whilst it probably looks a bit OTT for the job it’s also there to mount the steering rack and the upper wishbone mounts as else they’d hang off the edge of the chassis unsupported. With that all done I trial fitted the steering rack and column as I was a bit worried about the angle on the UJ, as it was it seems to work ok which is good news. I’ve also heard back from the laser cutters and they’ve found the missing bits from my order so those should be arriving tomorrow or Wednesday.

  33. @Benrobson2999 - Kent AO I know I harp on about this a lotwhenever I see a pic posted on the forum, but your passenger's harness is woefully mal-adjusted. In an accident, she would 'submarine' under the belt and down into the foot well, and the cross-strap/buckle would wreck havoc with her chesticles/armpits/throat/neck. Most lay-passengers aren't clued on the intricacies of harness adjustment, so it's up to the captain to ensure the passenger is safe and instructed. You probably already do the following yourself self- consciously, but loosen off the shoulder straps fully and get the passenger (and help if necessary) to tighten down the hip straps first. For the first seating of the day's run, it maybe easier to sort the passenger before you climb into your side. Folks, notice I said hip straps, and not waist or stomach straps. Only then, once the hip strap is snug and tight, are the shoulder straps adjusted snug against the chest but not too tight that they are trying to hoick the hip strap up. If you have multiple passengers, they are all different shapes and sizes and the procedure needs to be followed for each. I'm an ex-Airforce flight safety tech dealing with ejection seat and parachute harnesses, so this stuff has been drilled into me - and I wish everyone in any kind of harness the best chances of survival when s*** happens.👍

  36. Well after selling my previous Westfield i spent a very enjoyable year playing in a MNR Vortx but the lure of another Westfield was just too strong so here i am back in the club with a Megabusa. I bought this beauty needing a few jobs doing which with the expertise of Andy at AJ Automotive it's now all done......just in time for the awful weather 😔 I've managed a whole 2 drives so far and i thought my CBR1000RR MNR was quick but this Megabusa with it's RLM racing 1440 Busa engine is in another league again. Looking forward to catching up with some of you guys/girls in the warmer weather

  37. Two either brave or foolhardy Westies out playing last night in the dark and rain at our meet in Cullompton. I came over the (pitch) Blackdown Hills with some fog in places which was fun, particularly with the two candles which I call headlights 🤪. Grateful thanks to @colin homewood for his Roadside Assist service which got me going when my car wouldn’t start. I did feel guilty letting him push! Should have been the other way around, but many thanks Sir 🫡. I just popped the rather muddy car in the garage last night, but he had a good wash down at lunchtime. I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating that I’m really pleased with my side screens, half doors and half hood. There is little buffeting even at motorway speeds, and no water comes up between doors and bodywork so I stayed nicely warm and dry even without a heater, and because the car is open still, there’s no steaming up. What’s not to like?

  39. I took these photos a few days ago. It was about 35°F that morning but the sun was out. Just 24 hours later it was snowing sideways and we've gotten about 30 cm of snow since then. The car is safely stored inside waiting for the sun to come out and the temps to rise. The forecast looks pretty good for getting some more miles in later this week. Fingers crossed that the forecast is right. dave
