  6. I guess we really have done it now. Collected today and really pleased after a 60 mile journey along all kinds of roads. Deaf in one ear, blind in one eye, forgot to take my hat and my driving glasses, but we came home doorless and topless (ooh, err) even with a light sprinkle of rain. Chuffed to bits, now it’s time to learn the ways of it. Expect many questions, but for now bask in the glory of our yellow ray of sunshine ☀️

  7. We arrived early at Quackers Soon the troops arrived with Glynn next A last minute decision (escape) from Jake Paul and Margaret then I was too busy chatting to photograph any more arrivals This is the full quota of cars, 7 sevens so today we were the 49ers We sunbathed on the terrace at Quackers cafe After a catch up we set off on our route, up the hill towards the Longshaw Estate past fifty thousand cyclists puffing away, glorious scenery down surprise view and on to Winnats Pass. It was never going to be a clear run on a sunny Sunday in August so we just enjoyed the alpine scenery as we drove in second gear with the engine at 90 degrees. Up and over Mam Nick to get to the Rambler Inn for midday. The 'small' lunches arrived thick and fast Here we are parked in the scenic car park at The Rambler Inn Who fancies cake? We carefully chose the route to avoid the tourists and had a good run to the Cupola Cafe, which also has a very scenic car park Wait for it Intensley chocolatey torte But oh Glynn stole the show with his Bailey's Bread and Butter Pudding, just look at the size of it!! Andrew came for a comparison and was very disappointed, where is @Andy Westwood when you need him? We've had a fantastic day, what colour are her eyes? Double D, still laughing at that one! and the wonky indicators? hilarious. Also my intermittent indicators? a loose connector, all fixed so I can stand down my right arm signals for now. Thanks for a brilliant day out guys, apparently we are going to Silverstone next weekend so maybe we'll see you in a fortnight, kiss kiss xx

  11. After getting the MOT done on the MegaS2000 on Tuesday afternoon, I foolishly decided the best way to get my eye back in was to do a track day 😂. Nabbing a cancellation with Open Track at Wednesday lunchtime for the same evening at Donington, I rang Howden to get my insurance sorted. My annual cover includes 5 free track days, and takes just a few minutes to get sorted (fab service as always!). After lunch I swapped my out my cat for the decat pipe, checked fluids, torque settings, and pressures, chucked some tools in the boot plus spare wheels/tyres in the youngests mighty Corsa before we headed to Donington. In my excitement, I'd not realised until the driver briefing that I'd booked the full GP circuit... Only then did the realisation set in that I was facing a track layout I'd never used in a car I'd not driven at all for 4 months on tyres I've never used before (Nankang AR1's).... On top of that, local members John, Hedley, Tony, Glynn and Ben had all come along to watch, so no pressure 😂 During my last Donington track day in mid 2024, I was black flagged for noise (hitting a beautiful sounding 103.5db under the gantry vs the 98db limit!) and knew it was induction noise from the ITB's.... recently I'd picked up a PX600 airbox to help with this so fitted it in the paddock while we were waiting for the driver briefing. When test fitting, the airbox is a very "snug" fit under the bonnet so despite trying various adaptors, I can't run any of my filters.... as I will only run it on track I'm currently investigating fitting a 100mm turbo mesh, watch this space... I'll also be playing around with the fitment as the bottom of the ITG backplate doesn't quite fit the Pipercross airbox meaning a bit of duct tape is needed (it's securely and works, but isn't pretty 😂). After the sighting laps, I took to the track with my youngest riding shotgun managing a leisurely 2m01s fastest lap. Thankfully nothing fell off and all the temps were good. The weather was amazing and we had loads of stunning cars on track, including Radical, GT3RS, Ferrari, M4, M3, M5 etc. I am by no means an experienced track driver (having only done Donington National 4 times) but I have been steadily improving my lap times on each visit. Last year on the National circuit I'd managed to get down to 1m21.0 (1m23.1 with a passenger), so knew I was well off my normal pace (with the 30 seconds "rule of thumb" added for the Melbourne loop). My 2024 National personal best on 185/60 R888R and 235/45 Kumho V70a tyres: My next passenger run saw me down to sub 2 minutes but knew I hadn't got rid of the rustiness quite yet. Ben shared with me his GP layout laptimes from 2024 in his R1 engined MNR (1m54) and Michael messaged me to say he'd managed a 1m54.5 with a passenger in his Hyabusa powered MK Indy. While the MegaS2000 is a lot heavier than Ben's or Michael's bike engined cars, I've always managed to be competitive with them over a lap of Donny, so knew I could push on a bit more. Now a bit more focused with confidence in the tyres building, I went for a solo run to try and explore the cars limits a bit more. Finally it was starting to click and I could push on, getting to the limit of grip. I pulled back in with a big grin!! Racechrono showed me that despite a bit of traffic I'd hit a 1m52.5 and that if I'd strung together all the fastest sectors I'd have been at 1m51.7. On this solo run, I'd been playing with a Fiesta ST race car. Chatting to the driver (Aaron Lali) in the paddock afterwards, this slick shod 200+bhp car is a class winner in the Modified Ford Championship and he was using the laps as testing. He was really sending it on track, so I'm not sure he was overly impressed that a fat old bloke managed to catch and pass him 😂 On our final passenger run, we managed to catch, pass, and then pull away from the MacG Racing MK Indy (running a 2.0 Zetec on ITB's). Race drivers Josh Tomlinson and Johnny Macgregor were sharing their race team prepped car, so with a passenger onboard I needed all of the extra 70 ish bhp of the Honda as we had no advantage in the corners. Having a look at Racechrono in the paddock, we had managed to get down to 1m53.1 (optimal of 1m52.4) with a passenger. Not bad at all! We had run out of time at this point so wasn't able to get any more laps in. On reflection, I'm sure I'll be able to dip below a 1m50 with a bit more practice. Goddards was a corner I never felt I'd quite mastered (it's a weird off camber job) and I was a huge 6mph below my best at the apex of Craners (you need big cahoonas turning left at 100mph!!). I was also still short shifting a little on Wheatcroft to keep the noise down, and I'd left all the tools, tyreweld, compressor, and spares in the boot. I'd also forgotten to remove the Westfield umbrella 😂 The new AR1's were very impressive with a nice progressive break away at the limit. The extra front grip of the 205's over the R888R 185's was noticeable on the exit from Coppice where the LSD tends to give a bit of push when unleashing the power in 3rd or 4th. It was also evident through Craners, where I had a more positive front end making it easier to pull the car left to straighten up for braking into the Old Hairpin but I do need to push harder there. The 235 rears worked well too, excellent grip but progressive break away at the limit. Once I was used to them, they felt almost as good as the Kumho V70 but didnt overheat after a few laps. A few photos of the day: Catching the MacG Racing Indy (Josh Tomlinson at the wheel)... Off to build a gap! Hunting down the Fiesta. Through the Foggy esses. Found an apex 😂 An absolutely brilliant few hours and the car was faultless despite the hot weather. A load of us will the doing the Open Track evening at Donington (National circuit this time) on the 1st September if anyone wants to join us!

  13. I visited Llandudno last Saturday with the family and realised it was two years since my last blat into Wales. I'd seen the NWKCOG had a lunch time meet planned for today, so I suggested to a few, how about a blat into Wales first. Some (well two), weren't so keen on my suggested leave home time of 6am, so I met @Tony H , @M8KWR Dave Fleet (Orange Mev) @Louie just outside Trentham Garden's. As I was travelling there @andyjs spotted I was out and joined us with his Caterham pilot friend Scott. On my way there I took this pic- Just arrived outside Trentham Gardens We then headed over to Audlem to meet @CosKev Tony Hallam (Tiger owner with a Saab Turbo engine). Kev had kindly put a great run together for us, but due to the later than wanted start time we weren't likely to get as far into Wales as I'd hoped for. Here's are route. Some great roads. A brief stop to water the plants. Found this interesting car at a fuel stop in Shrewsbury. Only 1 made it's a McEwen and Pete it's owner and driver was in it! He's a kiwi but lived in the UK since the 80's. The car is 600kgs and powered by a 2.5L EcoBoost currently running at 300bhp. Mainly used on track. @CosKev & Tony Hallam needed to head to their respective homes, so I led the six others to the Newcott Chippy. Lot's of fake snakes and a few 7's!

  14. In the absence of the real thing, the postman bought this the other day. Obviously it’s the Caterham kit, but as it’s yellow and black I had to have it. Rejigged it so the exhaust exits on the correct side (Zetec) and lost all the Caterham badging and I’ll probably make a windscreen for it, but it’s pretty close to what we’ll be driving in a couple of weeks (hopefully!)

  15. Our car won the competition at the museum and the official photo's are in. The Great British Masters of the Marque, sponsored by Wera Tools, not bad for a 22 year old car that has done 76,000 miles, the polishing was worth it Glen! The prize It's the attention to detail also, little things like replacing the steering rack bushes. Ordered one day on-line from Westfield Chesil Ltd and delivered the next day, I might add, fantastic service. These are the 'before' photo's The 'after' photo's The one on the left was a very tight fit and will have a bit of attention tomorrow before replacing the nose cone. Your turn to win the competition next year!

  16. A huge thanks to our new Chairman @Hedley Bennett (HB46443) - Club Chairman for supporting this new event, a sort of small version of Malvern where all varieties of kit cars are encouraged to get together and rejoice in our choice of hobby. Hedley and I The Kit Car Show Thanks to @Jakejmagee for the extra photo's. When I said a 'small' version of Malvern, I did mean small, so don't laugh but come and join us next year to make it biiiiiiiig. @Greenstreak-Andy D bought out his newly refurbished car to show off to us. A lot of hard work and money has been spent after his unfortunate accident a year ago today. This goes to show just what can be done, I think the interior is the same and so is the engine. Andy has done a great job and his attention to detail shows. The Westfield's came out in force of course, 11 cars including Jake's Tiger The Marlin's had a good turn out, some were local (Ashbourne and Bakewell) and others had come from Leeds and even Somerset, so well done to them. A lovely, friendly and cheerful bunch. We get treated like royalty here with our reserved parking spots underneath the sign, I know I know, we are weird, I'll take that. Flying the Peak District flag The neat Honda engine on show As usual we get itchy feet and soon take off onto the wonderful surrounding roads in search of food. We had a great, steady convoy up to the Traveller's Rest at Bradwell where we always get well fed. Parked at the Traveller's Rest Blimey, well fed! I had been eating half an hour and still not made a dent in my plate, I reckon that I will be ok for food now until 3 weeks on Thursday. Poor Lee had to have a sleep halfway through his dinner it was that big. After lunch we took off to The Pavillion, Baslow for cake, oh hilarious, I just had a pot of tea I can assure you. No names, but some people could actually fit cake in Monkey's Tea Party Cars parked at the Pavillion I don't know where they get their ideas from......the boys ddecided to have a game of something that looked nothing like cricket The ball ended up here, of course it did... A hilarious day out, very much good fun, what a club, what great cars to have in such a wonderful place xxx

  19. Great success! Lift is in and working and the Spitfire fits a treat, although it seems to be p*ssing petrol straight out of one carb 🙄 I need to move a scaffold pole that was used for hanging stuff off and then I can get it about another 18” higher. Certainly more than enough room for the Westfield to live on bottom bunk, I will have to protect it from golden showers though 😂

  20. Another thrilling update for all those interested in ‘What have we done’ We will be collecting the car one day the week after next and Andrew at Toybox has come up trumps and found us a roof 😎 This afternoon has been spent fitting the lift. All the heavy stuff is done, electrics and hydraulics tomorrow, hopefully ending with the Spitfire up on top bunk before we go away Monday morning🤞 The good news is, it actually fits!

  23. To round this thread off, I thought I would share a few pictures of Mum’s 90th party. Why you say? Because the legend that is Colin Homewood drove 93 year old Dottie up from Dawlish to drive Mum and Dad to the party. Mum used to be driven around by a boyfriend or two in Austin 7s, so Dottie the Austin 10 was perfect for the occasion. Huge thanks to Colin and Dottie for making Mum’s day!

  24. Took my car to Northampton Motorsport last week for some attention to the cold starts and a map check. Unless the car had been sitting in the garage on only the hottest of days, it would start fine but run a bit lumpy until — I can only guess — the coolant reached around 30°C or so. Easily resolved with a bit of gas or just starting to drive, but I wanted it checked over having previously replaced a duff CHT sensor. Troy spent a morning running it up and down on the dyno, changing some of the ECU (OMEX) base settings and tweaking all the low RPM fuelling maps. As far as I know, it was as out the box by Westfield beforehand. Apparently, it had been configured to look for 9000 RPM, and by reducing it to a more realistic 7500 RPM, it gained a load of “resolution” in the map — fuelling is now more discrete and precise across the RPM range. The idle control values were also set poorly in the ECU and needed doubling to their maximum. Anyway, it now starts and idles great, but I’ll need to wait for it to be truly “cold” to see how it behaves. The dyno work did manage to kill the exhaust bobbin — too hot in low or no airflow — but it’s easy enough to replace. The whole team there were really helpful and deserve the good reputation they get on the forum.

Lots of people on holiday this month, but still a great turnout from the regulars today - the weather was perfect and a little carpark DIY happened as I fitted a BlinkSTOP with new plug & play loom to Paul's incredible Atom 4. Paul always forgets to turn his indicators off, and sure enough it came into use immediately on his drive home 🙂

  32. Couple of Westfieds competing in the CNC Heads championship at Donnington yesterday 9th Aug. A very large grid of 40 cars. Alek Modro, in the blue 2.3 Duratec Westfield, on his first visit to Donington qualified 11th, after only completing 6 laps due to the actuator rod on the gearbox failing. Happily the rod was repared and the car could take the grid. In race 1 Alek finished 6th, making up places and gaining track knowledge. Paul Masters in his 2.0 Duratec Westfield qualified in an excellent 5th and finished 5th in race 1. Race 2 is at 1:30 today 10th Aug, Alek starts in 9th, with Paul starting 8th, good luck to both drivers 👍

  40. Most of you will be aware that there are several membership packages available, primarily with and without posted printed magazines. Whatever membership package you have, if you want to switch it at renewal time, this is what to do: 1. IMPORTANT: Let your existing membership package expire first - you’ll see a big red banner at the top of the screen when that happens 2. Once it expires, log in to the forums as usual 3. Click twice on the Store tab (directly under the WSCC logo at the top of the page) to open up the available choices 4. Click on WSCC Membership 5. Chose the new membership package you now want, then follow the steps through to online payment That’s it!

  41. Hey all, I was on here for a few years with my Westfield and met a few of you, mostly in Scotland but had a prang which meant my Westfield journey stopped for a bit. Time and pennies are easier now (offspring’s Uni journey finished and new Westfield journey begins) and I am rebuilding and while I am sure progress will be slow I am enjoying pottering in the garage again. I will of course be leaning on the wealth of knowledge and goodwill on this forum and hopefully my questions are not too mundane or head slapping! Expect the first salvo of questions immanently!

  44. Can't complain about todays meeting, 9 cars, 10 with the MX5. The sun didn't really come out, but we sat outside anyway. After eating, we took the scenic route to the NY500 for another coffee. 5 cars left The Darrington, but unfortunately lost @Nicholas Rycroft within a mile of the pub. I blame a car not letting us all out of the carpark together, then a truck on the A1 blocking Nicks view as the rest of us took the junction. They caught us up later. Steady run back via Pickering and Helmsley. The sun did come out later, but I already had my coat on and wasn't stopping to take it off. Not sure how many miles, but a full tank of fuel used. I wasn't sure how many, if any were coming, so please can you let me know on the forum, not just the WhatsApp group.

We hope you will understand the club’s desire to prevent the forums being filled with spam posts, which have no useful purpose to the club or it’s members.

  47. Don’t you just love Somerset? Close encounter with a very large tractor; the farmers are crazy busy right now so probably should have expected it. Needed a firm slam on the anchors when it appeared, but Winston stopped straight and quickly which was handy!
