  2. Today, we caught a bit of the air race at Wellesbourne and had lunch. Later, we stopped at Pistons and Rings near Daventry for a cuppa and car chat. Pics at Daventry.

  3. Surely a new buyer of a factory built car wouldn't care in the slightest about detailed chassis design comparisons with prior models? It'll come down to how it looks, goes, sounds, rides, stops, fits and whether it's a desirable thing to own. I think they've done a good job there, and not too bothered about how much is really 'new' personally. All of these 7 type cars are just a rearrangement of mostly the same parts at the end of the day?

  4. We just need the members of the club to get behind this and support it. We all want members of the future to have the same fun building, driving, modifying, polishing and talking about our toys as we do. Without the factory, the number of Westies will only reduce. The old factory failed to improve, fix BOM's that were out of date, find new engine suppliers etc. The new owners have had a difficult job recovering the business, no doubt due to suppliers who had their 'fingers burnt' etc and have made some incremental improvements rather than radical changes. They've clearly priced it to cover their costs and aren't being subsidised by government grants for driverless airport transport pods, that the old factory likely were.

  8. There’s a number of really good points raised above, but the common thread has to be the engagement & collaboration of WSCL & WSCC for the greater good of each entity - I for one couldn’t justify or desire buying a new one, but I’m really impressed that someone (well the WSCL team) have invested their money, time & commitment to continue the Westfield story. I genuinely believe it can only support WSCC & everyone on here, let alone help to keep/grow the value in our cars on the 2nd hand market - not that I’m selling mine EVER as I hope my grandson can inherit it! In today’s marketplace for a ultra-low volume car-maker, WSCL need both a “cost effective component supply base” and “volume sales”, & those sales cannot just come from the UK alone, WSCL’s existence will surely require numbers to be sold overseas & I’m praying they come along very soon (although the thought of a future home build kit form - maybe a “hybrid“ instead of purely component form, to have option like when SEights were only sold as a “rolling chassis”) would interest a whole new level of buyers rather than £49K outlay. To me, WSCL have brought Se-NA to the market & as far as I’m concerned if it looks like a Westfield, sounds like a Westfield & drives like a new Westfield, then it’s a Westfield - cus there aren’t many/any Standard Westy’s out there! I’ve got everything crossed that Se-NA will be a massive success, WSCL deserve that & look forward to seeing the car in the flesh in the near future. 👏 Well done to Nigel & all the team in Bicester, and here’s to a much brighter new future 🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝

  10. Yep that's the appeal to me too. It's the one thing these days now I'm getting older that I don't like about kits, always having to fiddle with them or be fixing things. Did all that in my 20 and 30s, don't want to be doing it in my 60s, doesn't interest me in the slightest, I just want to drive the blooming thing!

  11. Whilst I agree with some of the nay-saying here, at the same time, how many of us really push our cars or, once built, really care about whats under the bodywork? Yes, there will always be some that need/want to know and love to tinker, but a lot of owners (and presumably potential owners from Westfield's point of view) want a sports car that just works. Will new owners care that the current shocks have been available in the past? I doubt it. Will they care where the base engine is sourced from? Most won't so long as it starts each time the key is turned, and if they want to tune it themselves, they'll be invalidating their warranty. As much as I love the idea of building the next generation of Westfield cars, (and some still may be so be in the future) the factory seem to be aiming at the Caterham-esque market. And that is mostly one where an in-depth knowledge of what size bolts hold the diff in is, frankly, irrelevant. As someone who spends a lot of time fiddlying with the 63 year old engine in my car, i can definitely see the appeal of being able to jump in a car, give it a beating and then just park it up and walk away until next time.

  12. Out and about today with my little co-pilot. Beautiful sunshine here, with amazing views along the coast road to Abbotsbury from West Bay, where we spent a few hours at the swan sanctuary, very relaxing. New hub covers stayed on! 💪🤣

  14. I think the new Se.Na is fantastic and throughly enjoyed the video. As much as the thought of building my own appeals to me, at the moment I don’t have the time or the space, so a turnkey car would be perfect. The price (as someone who has recently purchased a used Westfield) seems high to my limited budget, but does seem to be good value compared to its peers, and in the age of £50k + VW Golfs I guess isn’t far off the mark. What the £50k Golf has in its favour is compelling finance offers and I think this will be key for Westfield at this price point. The majority of cars sold these days aren’t £50k - they’re £5k deposit and £300 per month or whatever. I enquired about a Caterham before buying my car, and they’re now offering PCP deals. With the ridiculous residual values on them, it made an interesting proposition. I’m not the target market for a new Westfield so won’t comment further, other than to say thank you to the new owners at WSCL and wish them every success. P.S - if WSCL read this and would like someone to long term test some of those new carbon Tillett seats I’d be happy to volunteer 🥰

  21. WSC did hold an open evening for WSCC to preview the car, there's a thread on here somewhere, maybe an article could be written for the next mag on that too? Our Chairman even had a test drive 🙂

  23. Surprisingly good. Don’t be outraged, but in my naivety when I first bought the car back (and likely when I had it the first time) I was never particularly aware of the pressures in the previous set of tyres so I have no idea what they were! It felt pretty dodgy with the new tyres at 32 psi, but now with them at 18 it feels fine. Moving from semi slick 205 to treaded 195 the steering feels a fair amount lighter so in some ways I prefer it. There is obviously, noticeably less grip but it still feels nice to drive, I guess it just encourages a slightly more relaxed driving style rather than exploiting the grip as tends to be the case with the r888r. I’ll do as I intended which is to keep these on over the winter months and until the weather improves as I don’t enjoy the other tyres when it is wet. They will definitely go back on though as they are great fun and the cornering/braking is amazing.

  27. And How it is on 15" road tyres ? @Stuart Davis AO - Devon Cornwall & Somerset ? @mega ade - as for open diff, comapred to plate diff in mine Arrorace track Westfield it is much more controlable and much more safe on turn exits and on hard brakin starting turn. But loss on acceleration. For MNR I decided for plate but 'smooth' diff - 50 ramp angle for power, 80 ramp angle for braking and 40-50Nm preload. I dont have exact numbers on plate diff I have in Westfield, but according to specialist who was changing there ratio for 4,7 it is much more aggresive. @Rob Hunter - Club Secretary - Yes, I was really shocked and feel sad about this. I didn’t know him personally, but we exchanged a few messages regarding the suspension elements that failed in my car. I know he was extremely busy and involved in everything—such a loss. I’m not sure if this company can hold on without him. It’s sad to say, but he was the only person there who seemed to take customers seriously. From Chris, I only received copy-and-paste answers, off-topic, and really poor customer service. I believe Marc was the main know-how and designer there, and the car he designed seems truly exceptional. I hope I won’t damage it and will proudly keep the MNR stamp on the nosecone to honor Marc and keep his memory alive for others in this part of the World .

  29. Side view shows a few differences. They weren't actually the same colour either. The other one was more of a cornflour blue in real life and mine was a fair bit darker.

  32. Not everyones cup of tea. Thought I'd share a number of pics of my 2003 Sierra SDV, bought a couple of years ago, IVA'd this year and registered in Aug. Having had its mot at the end of august, now out and about, and loving it.

  33. I wish them well, just a shame they are so expensive and a home build option, they have ruled out …. To me that’s a shame. Acceleration seemed a bit slower than I was expecting too. Andy

  35. Yes David, eventually. They were awful to deal with, absolutely shocking and it took two formal complaints to get anywhere with them. I think things might've been different if the car had been recovered and then stored in a yard, instead of me bringing it home. Been quite stressful, so glad it's over. Thanks.
