Make sure you take an additive to convert the left hand drive petrol to right hand drive. Plays havoc with your steering otherwise2 points

Now to the other end of the scale... Total spend for buying the car and running it for two years (2x insurance, 2x MOT, 2x tax, servicing, repairs) has been less the cost of the dry sump kit I fitted to the Westy And I still have a car that's worth nearly a grand - budget motoring at it's best! The tape player still works perfectly well so you can imagine my, er, joy at finding Now! 18 in the centre console yesterday - it was released at almost the same time (to within a couple of months) the car was first registered, so thought that was quite fitting2 points

Well where do I start after buying my westy last year and a few track days under my belt decided to book her in with NMS for originally just a good check over service etc. After speaking to Troy and where I would like to be with the car decided I would buy off him a fully rebuilt Duratec with Jenvey TB'S here is engine spec 2.ltr Duratec SBD cams Vernier pulleys Uprated springs and retainers Ported head Standard valves SBD Omega pistons CR 12.5:1 SBD Carillo rods Standard crank Lightened and balanced Pace dry sump system Titan 4 KG flyshweel AP twin plate paddle clutch Lightweight denso alternator Jenvey throttle bodies Air horns Inlet manifold Fuel rail Bosch 450 cc injectors New piston rings, bearings, timiing chain and tensioners. My Plan was always to go Duratec but not quite so soon but we agreed on a deal which I couldn't turn down. So I dropped my car off hoping everything would be a straight forward swap ( wishful thinking I know on a job this big) but after weekly updates from Troy the only problem that I knew about was gearbox needed new seals. He took the box out and had it all checked and replace what needs be etc. After installing a new radtec rad, swirl pot, fuel tank/pumps etc she was ready to be bedded in then dyno. Happy to say it all went swimmingly and she made 257bhp and 189 ft/lb of torque so should fill my adrenaline rush. Also while I was there decided to get them to fit a race technology dash 2 that looks beautiful. Now looking forward to a few track days and a few sprints to see what it goes like. On first impression it seems great everything is a lot smoother and lovely power delivery. Really just want to thank Troy,Steve,Chris & team for all there help and guidance being a newby to these cars and not very technically minded they answered all my question no doubt some pointless . Also For jet washing my trailer off looks good as new now.1 point

You'll need a trailer to carry all the extra stuff to be compliant in France, Germany and Italy.1 point
-
you need to carry stuff like hi-vis vests etc in case you break down in some European countries so as it's been suggested, consult a reputable source. Oh, and a phrase book or app1 point

Definitely get proper recovery and read very carefully the policy with regard to values for recovery and accommodation or alternate vehicles. Some are very low and will either result in your expense or cutting your holiday short unnecessarily. One friend who had an incident chose badly and to wait 6 weeks for his car to be trans shipped home. Tie wraps hose clips and duck tape should do it with spare oil water and fuel. On the auto routes or bahns the service stations can be a long way apart and the range of a westies is short and can catch you out if you ignore one and wait for the next one......1 point

Tell your insurance company as some policies need to be notified in advance of you travelling abroad to ensure you recieve the full level of cover. Continental brakedown cover is a good investment and i suggest checking if this will repatriate the car back to the UK or simply get you to the nearest garage for repair. I also make a list of places i might be passing on route where i might be able to buy some of the common and also less common service parts that are specific to my engine.1 point

That is interesting. Thanks for the heads up. I really would have thought that sort of stuff would be covered by house contents insurance, given that it is, er, contents of the house...! I wonder what else isn't covered... And how they work out what isn't. And if they can make up similar rules to get out of paying out for other items!1 point

RED, I think, do a cast aluminium Type 9 to F20C bell housing. Otherwise the only carbon one I've ever come across was Mickmade's, (posts as MHC on here). I don't know if he ever made more than one, I don't know if he has the moulds still to make more, you could give him a try. The Mickmade one I saw was a work of art, and light as a light thing! But I daren't think what it would cost to make...1 point

Polevolt are great for all electrical stuff. Although disappointingly they seem to only sell a minimum of 10 now. Here's the relevant page I changed from an 8 way connector to a 4 to neaten things up a bit. 10 4 ways would still only cost £1.401 point
