Swapping Xflow to Zetec in Narrow Lowline Westfield

So at last I've had some time on the car, thanks to work and snow I've not done a great deal.

The engine is now in. Nothing much to report except the tiger mounts are a bit short so you need spacers at the bottom to bring it up. The nearside (right as you look from the front) mount is very close to the chassis so a bit of shoving and pushing and it was in.

I then measured the hole for the bonnet bulge and drew it out. Now my father has used fibreglass all his working life and I have limited experience so I took the bonnet and nose cone to my father to cut and stick.

Here is the bonnet with the bulge bonded in.

Much neater job than I could have done. I added the foam padding (4 mm thick) and re cut the trim.

Next was fitting it and hoping it would work.

The nosecone needed a little cutting to make it fit. However even with the bonnet bulge I found the top of the rocker cover was touching the bonnet bulge. So a little marking out was needed and I shotened it by about 8mm. This still is above teh line of the belt but gives me the space for the bonnet to flex (ie not touching when on) so hopefuly won't get "banging" when driving along. Here is the modified nose and rocker cover in place.

Lastly the bonnet is fitted in place ta da!!

Really pleased with the results.

Last job I managed today was fitting the dip stick shortening and marking it for 5 litres of oil. Then after a quick charge of the battery, out with the spark plugs and turned the engine over and got super oil pressure.

Next job is the alternator, radiator and electrics. Will keep you all informed.

Nice job Paul,

My blacktop sits further back towards the bulkhead, so hopefully i wont need to cut the nose cone, i bought a scoop to fit to my bonnet. Will give it a go in the next few weeks...

That's Good Greggs, I couldn't get it further back due to bellhousing, let me know how you get on.

I Worked on "Access panel" for the gearbox oil (or cutting hole in passenger footwell), and trial fitted exhaust (trying to get the old exhaust to fit the new manifold).

I'm enjoying the project and getting new stuff through the post at the moment,  hopefully post 6 tomorrow, depending on work and weather.
