12v spaghetti fest

More progress. Having discovered that the original screen washer bottle had a hole in it I ordered a nice new kit:

Bag, fittings and wiring all for a very reasonable sum. As far as the MOT tick list goes, this is near the end of the jobs. A quick fiddle and one broken replacement washer jet (very cheap!) I had it fitted. The broken jet responded well to super glue but will get replaced post MOT.

Now, let's pop the dash off for a look behind that to see if I can identify the mystery switches.

Run away! Goodness what a nest. A newly wired dash is one of the post MOT plans, I can take my time and make a new one, creating a decent loom with the ability to install the dash with a few simple multi-plug attachments when I'm done. But for now I need to find why the fog light and fuel gauge don't work. One of my colleagues can check the fuel gauge for me tomorrow (can't you Gary?). The reversing light is controlled by a switch on the dash according to one of the written masking tape pieces so that will have to change. The switch on the actual gearbox is either broken or missing so I'll have to get in there for a look. This might necessitate removing some panelling...oh joy.

When I tried the brakes again yesterday I did notice the pedal dropped gently under pressure, a bit of air needing a bleed then. No. Not that.

One of the original flexible hoses from the chassis to the caliper has wet itself. New ones on order then.

Now, Michael's (the last owner) sister is coming to lunch so I'd better go and pud the spuds on. As a parting shot, here's one I took last week whilst working in the dark.

Good stuff!  Looking forward to seeing the end result.  The reversing light is not an MOT item IIRC so wouldn't go too nuts on that one - you could probably just remove it from the body and be done with it.  When you do the rewire, make sure you not only label each wire but also create a spreadsheet with details of each wire colour and where it goes, i.e. which connection post on which switch - you'll be grateful in future.  My similar era dash has three quick connectors, so most of the dash comes away quite quickly (apart from the speedo cable and heater control cable) so fitting them is a good plan.

Thanks for the encouragement Scott.

Yes, I'll be making a well documented loom for the dash. Interesting about the reversing light. It looks ugly on the car (as does the necessary fog light) so taking it off would be a good move.
