New chap on the block in North Yorkshire

Evening all. Having fancied a Westie for quite a few years but not really being able to afford it, a few years ago I bought an MX5 thinking it would scratch the itch. Took it to the Dolomites, Bavaria and the Alps and while it was a grand little car it didn't hit the spot. Too remote, too sanitised, not enough 'fun' and not nearly quick enough. So recently I renewed my interest and started 'watching' a few and as a result ended up buying a 1993 factory built SEi in BRG with the 1.6 CVH engine, independant all round, 5 speed box, and 11,000 miles (80 since last MOT). It's not without it's faults, there is an electrics issue with the brake light circuit but other than that it seems OK.

My first impression on a long run was one of almost amazement. How quick ?!! After a good while just pottering I decided to see what it could do, and allow it to rev. First to register was the howling exhaust note, quickly followed by the sensation of being hurled towards the horizon. Next was the almost instantaneous change in direction from the steering wheel. So........the MX5 thinks it's a sports car does it ?

Mine needs some TLC underneath to ensure the frame is good for some years yet but all in all, I love it already and have had the polishing kit out to put some bling on the exhaust and heat shield. I sense this will be a long term relationship.

:ww: Good to have another CVH in the fold, enjoy your new baby and the club.  Don't be afraid to ask any questions, and be prepared for upgradeitis - it's a very contagious bug and we are good at helping others spend money! :d

I've just spent a few days sorting MY brake light issue and if I can, anyone can! :d

Thanks for the welcome, I'm in Leyburn in the Dales so I'm fortunate to have some great driving roads close by. I'm getting an understanding of this 'upgrade-itis ' you speak of, I've already identified a couple of changes I'd like to make. Mine has the clamshell wings but came with a set of cycle wings which have never been fitted. I have the stays for them and will be researching how to secure them together, I've read somewhere they can be bonded with an adhesive ? I also need to look into what lamp brackets I need as the fitted ones have the extension for the current wing figment.

I fancy replacing the lights with smaller black units at the front and some new, more rounded items at the back. Maybe look into changing the current BBS alloys for some five spokes and detailing the brakes a bit.

I was up around Leyburn on Saturday in my Westfield, you could have come with us. And just got home from a couple of days near Masham with some friends, we came home through Leyburn and Bedale.

Hi, I am also new to club with a cvh. Never really a great fan of the cvh until I tried one. Pulls great and not too thirsty. Happy motoring.

I know what you mean Mick, my only previous experience of the CVH was the 1.3 back in the days of the mk3 Escort, and while it was a sturdy and fairly reliable little unit it was hardly 'inspiring' . I was really surprised at how well the 1.6 performs in the Westy. Mine is on electronic fuel injection, and I've been told there could be another 40 bhp available with a carb setup. Not sure what I think about that, who wouldn't want extra oomph but there's something about it not being broken, so why try and fix it ?
