D7PNY
Hi All, I am after a halfhood for my car and have spoken to soft bits regarding this. They offer one that fits with 'Caged' bar which is obviously very similar to the playskool bar. http://www.softbitsshop.co.uk/half-hood-for-caged-roll-bar-671-p.asp However, being uncertain of the fit etc they would like a car to re do the pattern to accommodate the playskool bar. Problem being, I am based north of aberdeen! Does anyone else with a playskool roll bar fancy a half hood that could take their car along for measuring? Or even, someone nearby that could get measured up that doesn't necessarily want a half hood so that and I can donate some beer tokens for your trouble? Alternatively, has anyone fitted the caged style half hood with a playskool roll bar with any success? Cheers, Dave
Steve M
I have a Playskool MSA roll bar,( I know the caged roll bar is aprox 2 inches taller ) I rang soft bits last year & they said they just needed a few measurements from me, but then said as it would be cut not using a pattern, I would be looking at over £200, but couldn't give me an exact figure ?? ..so I left it. If they do end up making a pattern up & selling them at the normal price, I would be interested...maybe could get a few of us together & organise a group buy. D7PNY
2 inches taller? Really? I thought they were roughly the same height? Said to me that he would need a car to measure up. If I new there was enough adjustment in it to take up the slight different shape of the caged bar I was happy to measure up and get one but he didn't seem confident. That's why I wondered if anyone had tried before. Half hood would be really handy as hoping to take to work a lot during the summer as have an epic road on my new commute...half hood would mean I could take it without fearing the weather too much. Also planning a couple of road trips so would be useful for that! Cheers, Dave
Rory's Dad
I can't see the problem assuming all the cages are the same size. You need to decide how you're going to fix it without drilling into the cage itself. I guess a wrap round at the front and then brackets for the straps at the back. I'd take a measurement off the cage from front to back, centre to centre, bar diameter and a profile of the curve of the bars front and back and let them get on with it! I went to SB47s because they do the big zip so I can get in and out vertically (back problem). Just a happy customer
D7PNY
It's just the rear bar I have, not the full cage. (ie. very similar to the westfield MSA bar which Soft bits call caged bar) Cheers, Dave
CrisisWolf
Same issue here. I can't see how they are that different. RAC bar they do, just provide the A / B / C dimensions and all is well surly?!? Even the roll cage bar its just dimension A / B / C A - being windscreen top to roll bar top B - being roll bar top to rear of car (to poppers/studs I assume) C - the width side to side over the roll bar I need one, I want one. Was going to ring them about it and just give them the dimensions and lots of photos.
peet
I have the Caged bar with the Westfield hood and it fits perfect. I thought the Playskool bar was the highest by a small amount not the Caged?
CrisisWolf
I read it is slightly shorter than the WF MSA Bar.
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
I understood the new MSA bar, made by Caged for Westfield, to be a development of the original Caged Bar, so tube dimensions aren't identical, although the design looks broadly the same. D7PNY
They look very similar to me so was hoping that the existing template would accommodate the playskool bar. Just too far away for me to take car in to them. Expected to have to take plenty measurements but wondered if making a cardboard template of the shape of the rollbar as well would suffice. CrisisWolf
Can't actually see where they are based. I emailed them in the week about the plays-kool bar and if the A/B/C dimensions would suffice. My plays-kool bar arrived today so is off the car. Was going to measure and photo up. Only the 'hoop' is important. Windscreen to hoop dim various but can't see what difference it would make, and hoop to rear will vary anyway.
D7PNY
Yeah, that's why I was thinking that a template of the roll bar shape combined with the various measurements would be enough yo get something produced that would fit nicely. CrisisWolf
Might give it a go over the weekend and speak to them. What's the worst that could happen?
D7PNY
Well I guess if there are a few folk after one then it will be worth their while putting in the effort to get it sorted. I'm certainly a definite customer!
CrisisWolf
1. CrisisWolf 2. D7PNY Let's do a list so I have an idea when I talk to them (or someone else can and I'll do some photo/templates)
